1949 Leitz Wetzlar stereo microscope. Made in Germany
Hello all. Up for bid is this excellent 1949 Leitz Wetzler stereo microscope. The serial number is 413552 which dates it to 1949. It is an intensely well made microscope to say the least. Of course it was made in Germany. All knobs and operation are smooth and seem precise to me. But I really do not know what half of the stuff is here. It may need to be cleaned and professionally taken care of. I do not know. It has the original box. But the leather handle broke off of it due to age. Easy to replace and the original is in the case. This microscope may be for collectors and/or users. It is a beauty. It has an electric light source but I have no clue how to place the light source so I could examine anything under the scope. I do not know if the electric light source is original to the microscope or some kind of addition. It has an extra box ... morewith 4 eye pieces(red box) and another box for holding glass slides that is empty but looks like it holds standard glass plates. The black tubes with lids are empty. I think they are for holding lenses. Not sure. Anyway. If you wish to contact me and can instruct me. I can then test the microscope further for your satisfaction. This is the way I found it. I live in Summerfield Florida and have set postage price to cover standard shipping to California. This I do to establish a ballpark shipping price. It is an instrument made in Berlin. Germany by the company E. Becker. The microscope preserves all its component parts and comes in its original case, made of solid wood. The case contains two wooden stands with sleeves for the lenses and eyepieces. All the parts are in great condition in spite of their ancient age, making up a very interesting set for any collector. The microscope has a cast-iron black-enameled bird-claw foot. This design is typical of these kind of antique instruments. The foot is connected to a curve iron arm that holds the turret. Made of the same material and with brass and chromed-metal pieces. The turret bears the manufacturer’s ... morename engraved at the front: E. Becker G.m.b.H. Berlin W15. Just below this inscription we can see the microscope’s serial number: Nº 6230. Under the turret rests the four-lens revolving nosepiece in perfect working order. The lenses bear the magnification number and the inscription‘oil immersion’ engraved in the metal. As stated before. The microscope comes in its original solid beech wooden case. The box boasts fine dovetail joints, quite solid and attractive. It also preserves the original metal handle, the lock and a couple of operating keys. On the other hand, the stands for the eyepieces and lenses are also made of solid wood; they come with the plastic sleeves designed to protect and contain the accessories.
