The lens appears to have been used very little. I have also included 2 photos taken with this lens on a Nikon D-40 DSLR with a Yashica/Contax adapter. The lens is completely manual. Focus and arperature settings are done manually when used on a digital DSLR or on auto exposure when mounted on the appropriate Contax camera. So I wanted to see if the performance rumors were true, and years ago I hunted down and purchased two of the earlier 50mm F/1.4 Planars to test them against my late"MM" version of the lens. What I found ultimately left me wondering. Overall. I found that all the Contax Planar T* 50mm F/1.4s, regardless of serial number, are excellent performers- no surprise there. Shooting this particular lens up for auction wide open ... moreat F/1.4 in low light, however, it is just as sharp as my MM version of the lens yet renders slightly more definition in shadow areas. Stopped down to F/2 and smaller apertures, I believe this lens actually has a small edge in sharpness and resolution over my MM version of the lens; the MM version leans toward higher contrast, particularly at F/1.4. Myself, I figure the differences are probably due to changes in Zeiss' T* coating formulations over the years rather than this or that glass, or just simple sample-to-sample variation. I've enjoyed using all the Planar 50mm F/1.4s I've owned with both film and digital cameras, and they've all produced consistently high quality results. This one has some paint fading in the barrel markings and some chipped or scraped-off paint by the near-focus end of the distance scale. But its glass is unmarked and its functions are beautifully smooth. It's a natural choice for your Contax or Yashica Y/C bayonet mount 35mm film SLR, and this lens has also become popular to adapt to and use manually with a wide range of digital cameras, from Canon EF/EOS mount DSLRs to mirrorless cameras like Sony NEX, Fujifilm X-Pro, Olympus or Pa

This is a Carl Zeiss. Jena Tessar 13.5cm f4.5 enlarging lens( 221214) with a 44mm thread mount. It is a little bit larger than the M42 screw mount. The lens is in good condition. The glass has some haze or fungus. But no cleaning marks. The 15 aperture blades are clean and move freely. There is no damage to the front rim. I think this is an enlarging lens. Any other ideas are welcome.
