Microscope VTG 1908 B & L Bausch & Lomb Optical Co Brass Metal Slide N. Y
For your consideration from a smoke free estate. A truly wonderful piece of vintage optical equipment. I am going to do my best to describe this antique brass microscope. But as I am not an expert by any means in this area please forgive any incorrect terminolgy. Any questions or information is all welcomed and appreciated. This microscope is made of brass and black metal. All we have done is to dust this piece. So the brass. Although warm appears scratched. It looks really retro as it is. But I would think if you wanted to use it you would need to shine it up. I leave the cleaning of these valuable older treasures to the experts. The base is black and measures 5 1/2" longest) 3 3/4" widest) Base does have minimal surface rust(photo 7) and a screw that does turn. I think this screw may tighten the base into place. Back of base has ... morea round metal plate that I think is brass. It reads: Bausch& Lomb Optical Rochester N.Y. New York City. The Bausch is a little hard to read. The mirror rotates and swings freely. The mirror measures 1 3/4" across. The metal around one side of the the mirror has some age rust(photo 7) One side of the mirror magnifies the other is just regular mirror. The mirror side that does not magnify has some silver loss around the edge(see photo 7) this does not seem to effect the visiblity. The mirror will be removed for shipping as to decrease the risk of breakage. The area that holds the slides is black, the two slide holders are intact with good movement and I think they are brass. The opening in slide stage is 1/2" The underside of the slide plate has a circular dial I believe brass piece. This circular dial has 4 holes, I think they are used to regulate the light that reaches the mirror. This dial moves freely and the largest opening measures 1/2" across. The microscope raises up and down without problems but may need to be lubricated. At the tallest it is 14" retracted 11" The piece closest to the slide stage is marked: Bausch& Lomb 16 mm 0.25 N.A. T

I made a quick approximation of an ultra large format camera out of two enormous boxes and some tracing paper. The lens throws an image circle of about 29 to 30 inches in diameter! The lens has no adjustable aperture- it is a fixed f/6. Physically. The lens measures 5 1/2 inches in diameter and is 6 1/8 inches long. It weighs almost 9 pounds. There is no provision for mounting, I suspect that it originally would have used some sort of compression sleeve or clamping ring. Very good condition: there are some light marks and slight haze but overall quite good. There are three small spots of clear tape( showing along the very edges of the rear group- it intrudes on the clear aperture by no more than 1/16 inch. It appears to be a Metrogon/ Topogon type formula- four severely curved lens elements. All air spaced delivering a field of coverage of about 90-100 degrees(depending on which reference is quoted) Focal length is approximately 3 inches(75mm) The lens is mounted in very heavy brass, steel and aluminum. There are no markings and it has a fixed aperture(f/6.3? There is no mounting flange included. The mounting threads measure about 3 7/16ths inch at 36 threads per inch. The barrel measures about 4 1/4 inch in diameter and 1 1/4 inch deep. It weighs 3 pounds, 4 ounces. This is a nice Bausch Lomb antique Wye level with Mahogany box. Most of the the desccription is in the photos. It has focus ands cross hairs. Slight age haze. Lenses need cleaning. Wye latches work and have been"jeweled" a form of quality decoration" All functions are smooth and work as they should. The tripod threads are smaller than the usual 3-1/2 X 8 that are found on newer instruments. The bubble glass is intact with fluid. You don't see many B&L levels. This one could be rare. The prism angle can be measured on a 360-degree vernier scale found on the lower skirt of the unit. The scale is calibrated in degrees with every 20-degree interval numbered. WW1 351st US Infantry Headquarters Binoculars Bausch & Lomb
Military Kershaw No.3 Mk.II binoculars 1926 Here we have a rare pair of Military Kershaw No.3 Mk.II binoculars serial number 4062. The case is marked with the broad arrow, the matching serial number 4062 and the date 1926. The case is the heavy thick leather military one with brass rivets, belt loops and top handle. Condition: they need an internal clean but the lenses look unmarked. The Bakelite eyecups have a chip but this is old and has gone smooth. The enamel paint is rubbed in the usual places showing the brass and steel underneath. The individual focus is fairly smooth but the right one has a slight knotchy feeling at first. The case has that patination that only comes with cared for old leather, it has had a couple of repairs one the buckle strap to the lid and the other to the leather lid hinge at the rear, in other words the usual ... moreplaces of high wear. Nice vintage Balvar scope. I think it is a 2.5-4x but I am not 100% sure. Standard crosshair reticle. Includes the box and the ring portion of the mount. As shown. If you are looking at this you probably know that these scopes are externally adjustable and use special Bausch& Lomb mounts.if you are not familiar with this system please look into it before bidding. The scope is in good condition for its age. The tube has some worn finish spots on the bottom. Probably from rubbing on the lower mount and a rifle's sight. These marks would not be obvious when the scope is mounted on a rifle since they are on the bottom. The scope is clear when looked through. Power adjustment works fine. Up for auction is a vintage Bausch& Lomb 15 x triple aplanat loupe. This loupe is held together with solid metat rivets not with hollow rivets. The lens has some type of crystallization around outter perimeter. The lens center portion field of vision is good. The dimensions of outter housing is.900 inches. Barrel diameter is.555 inches and barrel length is.510 inches. The compostion of loupe frame and barrel is of a non ferrous metal.

But only one other 33-45-58. I have NO idea how that particular model number compares to all the others. Compared to the one other 33-45-58 this one still has the thermometer attached. But I will say that there is a loose piece fitted around the base of the thermometer. Not sure if it is supposed to be there or not. As noted this is a vintage piece of test gear that I have no idea how to test. I list it as USED because for all I know it may be usable as is. But it is untested and sold as is. And NO warranty is offered. However. IF you pay the asking price and find it has a problem you cannot live with within 14 days of receipt you ... moremay return it.
