I also put batteries in the transmitter, but the only thing that happens when I turn this unit on is a"colon: appears on the screen and it does not show the battery meter as it should. This unit does NOT power on any further. Cosmetically, both pieces are used and show expected scuffs, scrapes, paint, and some writing- see pictures for actual condition. As you can see in my pictures the unit still turns on and works great and you can see what you need to on the display to use it however the display is bleed out on the lower right corner.
