It has C/D 500 1-62 on the bottom which I think ... morepossibly means it was made in 1962. It was found at auction so I don't know any history other than specific age. It has the heavier bakelite-type-feeling handle. Black metal dial, and the old, I'm assuming original 4-prong plug. I do not have any way of testing this plug in so you'll have to buy AS IS. Since IT HAS NOT BEEN TESTED AT ALL. I would describe it as being in fair to ok used vintage condition. It has the look of an old used phone with typical scratches& dullness etc. all over. see photos) Its overall nice but I always try to be more critical in my descriptions and will not call something mint if it's not! This one certainly is not mint but the price also reflects that. A good cleaning and/or polishing would probably do wonders. I believe the photos show it well. Please look at all the pictures I have ... moreprovided. There are no chips. Dents on the phones. Its in great shape for its age. The metal body has a nice shine to it. S ome of the paint is coming off where the headset sits. The brown cloth cord is nice. No tears. There are no kinks in it, some dingy spots here and there but overall in nice shape. As you can see the numbers are readable, no fading, seems to have little use. It has the famous clickity clack sound when the dial returns. The 4H dial is famous for the classic sound. The dial is getting harder and very rare to find. The inside is nice and very clean. You can see the 4H in orange. I found the dates 1936 and 1937. This phone has survived a very long time. It has seen technology evolved over the years. As the new phones today have died, this one still manages to survive, even through the Bush years! Very Old Linesman's test phone. I have not tried to clean it but it is in excellent condition. This is an older model with the pencil dialer. There is a switch on the side that changes it form talk to monitor. Embossed on the inside middle of the handle is" Bell System. Made by Western Electric" Embossed on the side of the red and black connectors is"Conner Wire, Chatsworth, Ga. It's used by technicians to test local loop telephone lines. And is marked Bell System made by Western Electric. On one side is a switch to change from talk to monitor, and it has a belt hook. Orange in color and I've cleaned this one up but there are scuffs to the plastic. There seems to be a missing clip on the end where it would have clipped onto the worker's belt. Total length is 8.5 by 2.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep on the receiver end. Black rubber on the dial side. The dial works just fine. Bell symbol in the gray center.
