Antique Carl Zeiss No 4 compensating microscope eyepiece.
Antique Carl Zeiss Jena No 4(approx. 6X magnification) compensating microscope eyepiece for use with CZ apochromatic objectives. This compensates for the chromatic difference of magnification of these and other high-power objectives which would otherwise show colour fringes in the images. From the style of the engraving with the"achromatic doublet" and the nickel plating this probably dates from between 1905 and 1930. Optically it is excellent. Without misting, scratches or fungi. The original nickel plating is slightly dull and the paintwork shows minor signs of wear(see pictures) I will post this worldwide but with"signed-for" postage. Please note that if the postage costs significantly less than the price quoted. I will send a refund.

The lens is optimized for 1:1 macro shooting with an image circle of 80mm. Suitable for 35mm, 6x6 medium format, or digital shooting. It comes with an M39 Leica thread adapter, for which adapters are available(e.g. from srb-griturn.com) to other mounts such as M42 thread, T-mount, and micro 4/3 digital mount. The Smithsonian Museum of American History describes the instrument as follows: Zeiss introduced the Model Ni2 Automatic Universal Level in 1951. With advertisements and articles in scientific journals and exhibitions at meetings of surveyors and geodesists. Terming the Ni2 a level of"radically new design, Zeiss noted that it was"the first'automatic' level built in large quantities, and explained that its"ingenious compensating device automatically levels the line of sight with an accuracy of ± 0.3 seconds of arc. The Ni2 was a remarkably successful instrument. This particular unit is from the late 1950's early 1960’s. It comes with the ... moreoriginal wood locking box and is still in working order and capable of doing the job for which it was designed. This unit focuses well. It has a Gross and Fine Focus adjustment which work amazingly well. The Spirit Level and Prism Mirror are excellent and the 360 degree rotation is as smooth as silk. The fine horizontal movement is also smooth and works well. All the leveling knobs are in excellent condition. It also comes with a screw on Sun Shade and spare Eye Piece Ring. Though this unit has some minor wear marks. It is otherwise in real nice condition and is in great condition for its age. If you are considering it to use in the field, as with any used optics, I suggest taking it to a qualified optical repair facility for a thorough cleaning to get the most out of this unit! The outer optics appear to be in good shape(no visible cracks or blurring) but there does seem to be some minor dust or flecks internally when viewed from the eyepiece. Linacre Professor of Zoology at Oxford University in the 2nd quarter of the 20th C; he scratched his initials on the top surface(picture) These CZ eyepieces compensate for the chromatic difference of magnification of apochromatic and other high-power objectives which would otherwise show colour fringes in the images. These wonderfully clear and crisp bino culars have been in my c loset for some time. But I knew little about them. I always marveled at their excellent optics, with a little research. It is clear as to why- they were made by Carl Zeiss in Germany during WWII! Here is some information I've been able to glean about them: The WWII 7x50 U-Boat binocular was designed by Carl Zeiss Jena specifically for use in the Kriegsmarine submarine environment. They have a rugged water-proof cast-metal body shell with heavy rubber armor. The original neck strap is supple and not brittle and comes with the bino culars. The binocular weighs 3.62 lbs. It is 3.6" tall and 8.8" wide. U-Boot crews spent a very limited time on the surface. So the focusing was set to infinity for each individual sailor that was on watch. HasselBlad Zeiss SONNAR F 150mm f2.8 T* 6063606. This is a very nice and clean Hassy lens. All the optics are free of any mark.Haze,fungus, or scartch. The blades are dry and snappy. Have a little dust between optics. But that is NOT effect any picture quality. The barrel of the lens is clean as well. Have a minimum sign of usage can be see by the filter ring or by the bayonet. All the numbers are clean and visible. Comes with all original dust cover. And original box. The case of this item is MINT condition. Take a look at the pictures. CARL ZEISS JENA MICROSCOPE w/OAK CASE& OBJECTIVES IN CASES This is an antique Carl Zeiss Jena microscope. This beautiful brass and japanned black microscope comes in its original box/carrying case. There are three objectives. Each with its own carrying case. They are all brass: 8 is marked"A" and 2.0, 40 is marked"D" and 0.65, 90 is marked H1 and 1.25 and also 1/12" It is very tiny) There are two ocular lenses- the 10X and the 7X. The lens and cases are all in really nice condition. The microscope is missing the inside wheel for the fine adjustment and also some piece near the top(see picture#5) The oak case has been repaired. It had been cracked in half near the bottom and now it has two screws and is once again solid. You can also see a crack running down the top but the case is solid. The case size is 14 1/4" ... morex 7" x 9 1/2" tall. Buy to use. Display, repair, or parts. This is very old and what is missing on the microscope does not really have a big effect on usefulness. Used M42 Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 300/4. It is P6 mount. But attached with a M42 adapter. Focus is smooth. Aperture blade clean and snappy, Glass is clean/ scratch free. The photos show actual item.
