Up for auction is a Union 3 jaw chuck made in New Britian. Conn. Its is a 7 1/2 inch diameter No 153. It was on a 13 inch South Bend lathe. It has the hard to find 1 7/8- 8 thread on the backplate. I cleaned it and oiled it but it just doesnt work. The jaws also have some damage. One has the first tooth broken off and the back tooth partially broken off. Vintage 9" Skinner South Bend Lathe 4 Jaw Chuck 2 1/4 -6 TPI Machinist Tool
Up for auction is a 4 jaw 9 inch chuck. It is marked SOUTH BEND LATHE WORKS MADE IN USA BYSKINNER CHUCK CO. It screws onto a 2 1/4 diameter 6 tpi spindle. It has been sitting in a basement for years so it was pretty rusty. I wire wheeled most of the outside. Removed and oiled the jaws and now it works nicely. There is still rust that could be cleaned off. Chuck will be shipped with the jaws out so it will fit in a medium flat rate box. Lathe Milling Mill Attachment South Bend shop made This is a USED Shop-made Milling Attachment for a lathe. Someone spent a lot of time making this unit and did a very good job. I used it on a South Bend 9" 415. With a Palmgren No 000, 2-1/2 inch angle vise. I now have a mill and haven't used this since. The table and ways are milled out of 1" thick steel. The table measures 4" x 6"and has a vertical travel of 3" with a.050" per turn hand wheel with graduation dial. Five gib adjusting screws. There are 8. 5/16 taped holes and one middle hole taped 3/8" for mounting a vise. The mounting spud I believe it is called is 1-3/8" OD. It weighs about 21 pounds. Remove the compound and drop this in. Add a vise and you are ready to mill. I am Glenn’s Saw Service. Cushman 4" 3 Jaw lathe chuck three 1.5" 8 tpi ? atlas south bend hardinge logan
Up for auction is a Cushman chuck as pictured. No wrench included. It is marked in several places 484 C. It looks to be about 4-1/4" diameter. It has a brass backing plate that appears to have 1.5"8 thread. It looks like that would unbolt easily and perhaps would reveal a universal/ plain back mounting options. Somebody attached soft jaws over the top of the original external gripping jaws as can be seen in the pictures. I was able to move the scroll and it felt smooth with little lash, looks to be a very nice condition chuck all in all. The brass backing plate with thread appears to have some wear, but the chuck itself looks very good.
