south bend drop bed lathe with taper attachment
We have for sale for parts or repair a good sized South Bend drop center lathe with taper attachment and 3 jaw chuck. The lathe hasn't been running in several years. And has some parts removed. We believe we have the missing parts to include with the lathe. At one time the lathe was dropped and a couple handles were broke off and one set of legs broke off. We bolted a different set of legs in its place but the legs are about 6 in. shorter. We bolted wood blocks to the bottom of the legs to compensate. The lathe was originally 6 ft. longer with a third pair of legs, but we cut it down. There is a lot of great parts to salvage off of it or the lathe could be reassembled and put back into service. Unknown make of quick clamping vise. Center rod attached to moving jaw has a slight bend which causes the jaw to bind right before it clamps. I believe it could be easily fixed. Other than that it seems well made and in good condition. I may need to remove jaws and maybe the center rod to get it into a medium flat.

Countershaft Assembly for South Bend 9N or 10K Lathe, for parts or repair
Up for sale is a countershaft assembly for a South Bend 9N or 10K lathe. It functions. But has damage and excessive bearing wear. The second picture shows a broken hub where, most likely, someone tried to drive the tapered pin out in the wrong direction. Two setscrews have been put in; they work, but are not as strong. The shaft was replaced to accommodate these setscrews. The cast iron bearings show a lot of wear, with several mils of play all the way round. I used this for months without problems, but I had to remember to oil it every few hours, and the sloppy bearing fit allowed oil to drip out. I believe this could be reconditioned, or it could be used for parts.

South Bend 16" swing 8' Bed with taper attachment. This is a 4 speed 1965 Lathe. It has the newer X brace bed. The ways are in good condition. All speed and feeds work. Automatic Carriage and Cross slide feeds. All gears are good. Backgear works. 220/440 3hp 3 phase motor. 7.5" camlock 3 jaw chuck. Threading gage. Lantern tool post. Live center. I am including handle for the compound rest it need to be drilled out to size and installed. I have been running this on 1 phase with a starter cap. Or add your VFD.
