Cleaned the oil passages, put in all new oiler felts, and painted it with a quality urethane machinery paint. In great shape. 8" 4 Jaw Metal Lathe Chuck Made in USA South Bend Clausing Craftsman etc.
For sale is 4 jaw chuck for a Metal Lathe. It is about 9" outside diameter so probably considered an 8" chuck. The jaws move freely. No key included but it only takes a 3/8" square drive. I polished off the surface rust with some scotch-brite so it does not look too bad. I could not make out the brand, but I could see that it was made in the Connecticut USA. You will have to make your own backing plate. Otherwise good used chuck- don't expect new it has been sitting around for years unused therefore the surface rust. Sold as is with no returns. Lets figure out if it will fit before it is shipped. Thanks

Up for bid is a South Bend Lathe PT497T1 Collet Rack Pipe for a 13" lathe. At least I think it's for a 13" lathe. I don't have one to check the size against. It's 11-1/4" long-you'll have to decide. It is in great shape. As it has been cleaned and custom painted by me. When I refinished my lathe, I had paint matched to the original color and that is what these are painted with. No guarantee at all that it will match your lathe as SBL used many different colors over the years, not to mention how it ages. The number 72 R1 is stamped into one of the nuts and accoriding to the South Bend Book this is for a 10" And i am pretty sure it is for the Heavy 10 South bend. Please note: I do not know ... morethe history of these parts; they were on a shelf being stored with some other assorted replacement parts for the Heavy 10 South Bend. They look to be in good condition but I have no way of knowing if these are new and unused or a used set from one of the lathes. By my inspection the threads look good so if you need a set of half nuts to complete an existing apron these should work fine.

If you've been looking far and wide for a metal lathe for your shop. Don't want the poor quality and kit form of an import(named after a bear!and are not interested in restoring an older, worn machine, this is the lathe for you! Up for sale is a restored South Bend 9" Model A metal lathe, brought back to beyond factory new condition, complete with a very nice selection of quality tooling and measuring instruments. As well as being a very high precision metal working tool, it's a thing of beauty and would, I think, look great in a living room rather than a shop. My wife tends to think otherwise. This lathe is perfect for a home shop machinist who wants the best available yet is limited in space. It can be easily moved into a basement or garage and set up with little effort. This was not your typical clean it up. Paint it and ... morecall it good"restoration" The lathe was stripped totally down with each component looked at as a seperate project, each component brought back to original condition. It was restored with an extreme attention to detail and with quality craftsmanship, as it should be! What makes this lathe special is the fact that the bed. Carrage and compound have been hand scraped back to factory specs, the moving surfaces were turcited and then scraped to the mating surface. Turcite, by the way, is a way strip composed of teflon impregnated with bronse that allows a machine tool rebuilder to create a very tight, very smooth and very accurate machine tool. Both the carrage and compound dovetails were machined back to truth. Then scraped and turcited, they are smooth and dead on. Both feedscrew nuts were replaced and the carrage and compound were very carefully aligned to each other and to the bed. The tailstock was also carefully scraped and aligned to the axis of the spindle. A new jackshaft was machined and four new oilite bushings were installed. Along with a new idler gear bushing and a new apron handwheel bushing. All the castings were stripped to bare metal then given 3 coats o

Up for auction is a vintage South Bend Metal Lathe from the early or late thirties. It comes with a vintage Baldor thermo protected motor. South Bend Metal Lathe- There is a tag on the side that reads Screw threads and power feed 9" workshop South Bend Lathe length bed 3 1/2' Catalog No. 415-ZA. There is also. Another number on the end of bed 88388. Attached to lathe is a 5" 5594 chuck trademark Union MFG New Britian Conn as well as a Jacobs Chuck. The lathe is in good condition with some surface rust that can be cleaned but will leave it up to the new owners. I have not tried the Lathe out to see if it all works since I do not know how to use these, it was purchased at an estate sale and according to the woman the Lathe is operational. I did power up the motor and it ran before I disconnected it to move it. The Lathe does come ... morewith a vintage 3/4 10.8 amp thermo protected Baldor Motor. Zagar 5c lathe Collet Closer, lever operated fits south bend, logan, others?
Hello. Offered for your consideration is a Zagar Collet Rotating 5C chuck for a lathe. it appears to work fine, though it has some cosmetic dings and dents(see pictures) I did not originally use this, so I can't speak to it's former life, but it appears that the closer lever has been repaired by brazing. it does not affect it's function, the lever can be easily moved into the closed position. the way this has apparently been used is interesting. this is a lever-style colllet closer, but the entire thing mounts on the SPINDLE of the lathe, not on the outboard left side of the lathe. also interesting, it's former owner mounted it to a threaded 3" bar, that was apparently also gripped on it's outer periphiry in a 3 or 4 jaw chuck. which might make it faster to mount/unmount, however it might not have been as accurate ... morethat way. the backplate is also bored and threaded with an 8TPI thread. the inside shoulder is 1.496" and the minor diameter of the threads appears to be 1.348. So I believe this to be a 1.5" 8TPI thread which should fit a South bend 9" and many, many other lathes? it's overall outer diameter is about 4.1 inches. it appears to be VERY well made.
