It well made and is in very good condition. There is about.015" backlash in the Y handle. There is about.025" backlash in the X handle. Vintage metal lathe Compound cross slide good user cataract elgin hardinge look
I have for auction this vintage compound cross slide. It is un marked with a markers name. But it is similar to the hardinge that I had just sold. The top cross slide moves in a nice smooth motion. There is some chips and dents on the dove tail( see pictures 2& 6) But they don't hinder the travel motion of the top slide. The top slide maximum travel is 3 1/4' The Bottom slide has a maximum travel of 4' The slide measures 2 5/8' tall. The measurement from the bottom of the compound slide to the bottom slot where the tool post sits is 2 1/4' tall. please note this is like an L slot& not an upside down T slot. The previous owner made a t slot bolt for the bottom mount.It fits but it is not the correct one. There is wear and tear as you can see in the pictures, but it is a pretty good slide. Seems like it would be a pretty good lathe if it were cleaned up and repainted. I see one place on the rails that looks as though a hack saw might have slightly nicked it. And the nick is shown in the pictures. From what I see. The tool holder and the platform that it sits on moves very smoothly when the locking lever is opened. It is at least committable with the following models: And any others that use the same saddle. What you get is what you see in the photographs. Everything on the lathe is tight and smooth. There is no play. Nothing is worn out. Gears are all clean and damage/wear free. Lathe will require a new drive belt and the motor has to be hooked back up to the switch(wires were cut in order to move it) There is some light surface rust on it. Which will clean right off. All the accessories and parts pictured are included. Some of them may not actually go with the lathe but I got the box of parts when I purchased the lathe so I am including them.
