Improved Patent Magneto Electric Machine Antique Medical Shock Box 1800's
Talk about your weird stuff! I dug this out of my old storage unit. It was in a box with a Peter Gabriel record. What's funny is the song shock the monkey was circled. I don't have a record player so I ordered a cd with that same song on it and I'm listening to it now as I list this. LOL. Anyway this box is made of some beautiful old wood and its 9 inches long 4 inches deep and 4 1/2 inches tall. It appears to be missing some type of belt to drive the mechanism so I'm not going to screw with it and shock my monkey. The earliest date printed inside the lid is. London 1862. I looked this thing up and mine seems to be the most decorative of the ones im seeing online perhaps it was made earlier or it was a fancy model.Hard to tell? Beautiful assortment of museum quality technological and musical gadgetry this week, so regardless of what you like to collect. I think you'll find something that interests you. Here's an Improved And Compound Magneto Electric Machine. Manufactured ca. 1850 by Asahel Davis of Lowell, Massachusetts. The apparatus was the first in a long line of boxed magneto machines developed and marketed by the three Davis brothers- Asahel, Ariel& Daniel- and later copied by numerous 19th century entrepreneurs. A smaller and simplified version of Daniel Davis's Improved Magneto Electric Machine of 1848, it featured a similar mechanism but was housed in a mahogany cabinet measuring approximately 10" x 5" x 5" Its operation ... morewas straightforward: as the magneto was cranked, two cylindrically shaped"handles" attached to the field via wire leads on the left side of the cabinet delivered an electrical current deemed to be of therapeutic value to the recipient. As you can see in the photographs. Condition is very good throughout. The"handles" are long gone, but the apparatus is otherwise complete, the lid label is undamaged and wholly legible, and the the crank turns the magneto as designed. Drive belt is a replacement, but the felt covering on the coils is original(though worn, as you can see) Cabinet is in excellent condition, with no damage. Original brass fittings, with minimal oxidation and tarnish. Finish is original and in good condition. That's about it. I will pack it carefully and properly. Here is a decent looking Wico EK magneto for your hit& miss engine. Pot metal does have some pitting and corrosion. But the coils look pretty fair as well as the magnets and armature. It wouldnt suprise me a bit if this mag is 5 minutes of work away from being able to spark. I haven't messed with it though and it's being sold as is, for parts or get it working and use as is! Here is another FM magneto. Made for the Wisconsin Teledyne era engines. It has the serial number SH and the part number Y-97 stamped on the ID plate, so it may have been installed on a V4 engine. What you see is what you get, it has the coil, points and condenser, but not tested. So please don't assume they work. The front gears appear in good condition and spin freely. There is NO drive gear in the back. Where it engages in the engine. Missing is also the snap mechanism. This is strictly a parts mag. check out my other sales this week(more mags. Here I have a Ignition Magneto made by Fairbanks Morse for a Wisconsin Engine. The mag was removed from a 2 cylinder. I believe a AENLD which was seized up. The green color is due to the fact that the engine was bolted to a Lindsey air compressor. The snap impulse works as designed and it does produce spark on all outlets. Best I can read of the ID plate is the serial number PH and the part number Y-79-B. No cracks and all threads appear in good condition. check out my other sales this week(more mags. Old Lasure Hit Miss Gas Engine Clutch Pulley Steam Tractor Magneto Oiler NICE!!
This is an extremely nice and very hard to find original clutch pulley for a hit and miss gas engine. It was made by the Lasure Friction Pulley Company in Watertown. Wisconsin and fits on a 2 1/4 inch diameter crankshaft and could be bored to fit a 2 1/2 inch shaft. It could also be bushed to fit anything smaller. It has a 6 1/4 inch face and is 10 1/4 inches in diameter. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs and everything works as it should. It snaps in and out very nicely and is ready to be put to work on an engine. These clutches rarely turn up in the wild or even at swap meets and they surely make it easier to use your engine to run belt driven implements! The pictures tell the story. Old Spiegel Chainsaw Fairbanks Morse Hit Miss Gas Engine Steam Tractor Magneto
This is a very unique and rather hard to find original Spiegel chainsaw. It seems to be in very good condition with no cracks. Breaks, or repairs of any kind. It has a big 20 inch bar on it. It has a Fairbanks Morse recoil which needs some minor attention as it doesn't retract all the way and it also needs the link between the finger throttle hooked back up. The pieces seem to be there to do it. It turns over nicely with super compression and I'm sure it wouldn't take much to make noise with it! I will remove the bar to make it easier to package for shipping. It has some nice original paint on it and would be a fine addition to your early chainsaw collection.
