Oldest Known Cook Hit Miss Gas Engine Mfg'd Delaware Ohio 3hp Here is a very nice vertical 3 horse power COOK hit miss gas engine. As far as I know this is the oldest. And only known Cook of this style. I have a letter from 1977 to the current owner at that time Harold Rafferty. From Donald Cook, the son of Arthur G Cook Senior, second son of Charles Cook, the founder of Cook Motor Company. In part of the letter it states that: The first few Cook engines were single overhead valves with external cam shafts. Then came the"L" head. Only the very early engines were"L" head. Therefore your beauty is undoubtedly older than any of the overhead valve models with enclosed cam shafts. This letter. And some other paperwork and copy's of photos is also included in the auction, that goes with the engine. If you are into COOK ... moreengines this one is for you! I have been collectiong engines for 50 year and have travelled all across this country. And have never seen another like it. It will make a great addition to your collection. This flywheel would have been on a wall mount drill press. I usually sell these to people building scale model stationary hay bailers. It is 14" diameter. The ring is 1.400 round, the hole is.790. I see no cracks or welds. One spoke looks suspicious, but I determined it to be a casting flaw. I tapped all spokes and they all had a clear ring, so none are cracked. Some of Charliebrowns rules! Here is a rare opportunity to own your very own model live steam traction engine! I don't know the full history of it but I know a little bit of it. I bought it as a project. But I just don't have the time or space for it right now. The paint is flaking and there is rust on it. I have the cover for the front as well as the water tank and I will try to get pictures of them. The rear tires are not weather checked but do have some damage to some of the nubs. The governor has some issues and does not turn currently. I have not messed with anything in the boiler. It will need hydro tested and recertified to operate it in public. It does however need hydro tested even if not used in the public. That is for your own safety, as well as others around you. The wood decking on the back was rotted so I removed most of it. I have some parts to ... morethe cart that the operator rides on, but I don't have all of it, or the wheels. Here is some of the specs: Last certified by the state of Pennsylvania in 1983. 6 feet in total length. 30 inches wide. 50 inches tall. Approximately 3"x4" steam engine(BorexStroke) 15 inch flywheel. 1 inch penberthy injector. 1/2 inch gardner governor. Approximately 350 pounds. Sight glass. 5. 1.25x24 inch flu tubes(I.D.xlength) Water tank. Fuel storage tray(for coal) Authentic style steering. Reversing valveing linkage and selector. Chain driven to both rear wheels. You are bidding on a very nice all brass body. 3 bar Webster low tension magneto. It's totally complete, and in great shape. The name band does have a couple cracks in it, but it's still holding together. The only things you could say are missing are two of the spring rollers, and you can buy those brand new for just a couple dollars each. The armature is a little sticky, it probably just needs to be used, and I don't think this mag has been on an engine in many, many years. Studs are all in great shape, and the same length. This is a Detroit lubricator. This lubricator is 14 3/8 inches tall(with the plumbing shown in the pics) and the cylindrical oil container is 2 5/8 inches in diameter and 7 1/2 inches long. With the knobs. Overall width is 6 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches. The onion part is 2 11/16 inches wide and 4 3/4 inches tall. It weighs 7 pounds. Condition Description(from above) Used condition. Grimy. 14 day return. See pics. Sight glasses fine but dirty. No Dents or Scrapes. Bakelite handles in good condition. But one is missing part of its outer edge. See 1st pic. Heres an old condensor/radiator from an old engine of some kind. Made by the PERFEX radiator co. It is 12 1/2" tall. 11" wide, 2 1/4" thick. The core is brass, the top tank and sides are steel. It was attached to the top of whatever engine it was on so it has no bottom tank. Would make a good radiator for a homemade tractor or mini car project. Vtg Antique Hit & Miss Steam Engine Wood Tool Box Tractor Implement IH Primitive
Antique Farm Engine Implement Wood Tool Box with Cast Iron Hardware. 14" x 8- 1/2" x 6" tall. 7 pounds. Sides and top look to be maple or poplar. Bottom pine. This box was used around this farm for 80+ years. It has been referred to as steam engine. Motor and machine box. The person that knew is gone. We had many IH tractors. A steam engine, a well drilling machine, A corn sheller and a lot of hit and misses over the years. I don't know what it came off of. There is a casting number on hardware. One casting bracket is cracked. At screw hole. There is a slight warp in lid at that crack. Warp show going up left to right about 1/8" in last picture. Lid and box are solid and sound.
