The kit is a 5/16" = 1" Scale working( but not yet) model of a 4 HP Hit or Miss engine. This one is almost completed. The prior owner ran in to health issues. And told us that there is about 4 hours of work to be done to get it running. Photos will show the progress made and hopefully detail what might be needed for completion as well as give a better idea of just how much work has already gone into this kit. The existing kit is in excellent condition; there is a little dust and very little grease that should clean up nice and easily. The green paint looks great on this as do the brass parts. Witte 3HP Headless Hit Miss Antique Gas Engine w/Magneto - Barn Find, Complete!
Up for your consideration is a recently rescued 3 horse power Witte Engine Works. Headless, gasoline hit n' miss engine. I have known this engine to in an abandoned, and dilapidated, grain silo in NE Pennsylvania for quite a few years now. On a recent drive through this part of the state I just happened to catch the owner in the process of pulling the old wooded silo down before the wind took it and potentially injured one of his dairy cows. When I stopped to ask what he was planning to do with the old engine inside, he replied"is that what that is? I'm just going to bury it with the silo, it looks pretty worthless to me" Needless to say, I negotiated to buy the engine before this happened and loaded it up and took it that day, in a full suit I might add! Witte engines are not my particular forte; however. I believe this ... moreengine to be complete with the exception of the skid mounted fuel tank and the"screen/muffler" that terminates the exhaust pipe. The engine is loose and turns over well with no noticeable or obscene flywheel wobble or bearing/piston wear. There are no obvious cracks, breaks, or old weld repairs and the cylinder bore looks to be in real good shape. The original, and I believe fairly rare for these engines, magneto is still in place and loose; however, I did not spend any time playing with the unit to test for spark. I assume the mag will need gone through to reliably start and run the engine again. The hand starting crank and old champion spark plug are also included. It probably goes without saying; however. Everything seems to be working as it should, but could probably use new gaskets. The fill cap is missing, and previous owner has a cork in its place. Up for buy now or best offer is this 4 stroke, air cooled, opposed 2 cylinder, Onan generator. I had it sitting around in my heated garage for a future restoration project. I am too busy to work on it and am running out of garage space. So it has to go. It is missing its fuel tank and flywheel shroud which could easily be fabricated from sheet metal or the end of 5 gal marine metal gas can for the shroud. It has a Marvel-Schebler carb that needs a fuel glass. There are many rebuild kits for this carb. I believe this unit was used to power x ray machines off the battlefield. Once restored it will start using a pull rope or with 12 volts. applied-to the generator component acting like a starter. It may be missing other parts ... moreand is only sold for a non-running project or as parts. The engine and generator is intact and seems to have good compression. It turns very smooth. Serial# is otc18213 to otc48214 which means it was made between 1943 to 1944.
