They were imported to the US back in 2002 by Toni-Marie Astin threw help from Marc King of Italy. These are the real thing. Not the common mix bred mutts that are popping up and being called ohiki. These are direct from Toni. If they arent chances are they arent ohiki. I have worked with these for several years now and finally am to the point of where I can start letting a few go to others. Though it wont be many. I took several years to work with and fine tune my stock. The shojo color is certainly one of the rarest in the world in the ohiki, and these are some of the best examples of them anywhere in the world. My main breeding rooster is dragging the ground heavily now and the saddles he has are to die for. The ohiki is now one of Japans national tressure breeds and it is now a felony for them to export any more, making the breed even harder to find. They are a true dwarf bantam. They have extremely tiny legs, a good bird will have basically a foot on a thigh, almost no shaft. Their tails and saddles are extremely soft and thin, but they are a multiple feathered breed which makes for tons of feathering. Basically they look like dust mops when walking. They do best when kept off bare dirt due to this, it just messes up the feathering. Toni had about bred the dietary issues out of the birds, so that isnt much of a problem any more on US stock ohiki. These are a very rare find anywhere in the world, and I do prefer they go to people who will cherrish them and take good care of them. You can see some chicks I just hatched out the black ones I got 3 hatched chicks out of 5 eggs but 4 developed and one didn't make it out and we all know that is common when hatching eggs. The Hen has a nice tall comb that is very good and she is laying some nice large eggs. I would use distilled water so there is no bacteria grows in the tap water, google it. and let the eggs sit for 18 to 24 hours before incubating them. You can see they have solid black feet and toes and skin, etc the pictures do not lie, please look. You are buying eggs from a 4-h member and you can see the NIP Paper that they were just tested. I will ship Priority Mail with tracking number, double box and individually wrap the eggs as well as pad both boxes to give the best possible chance of a safe delivery.
