PLASTIC ROUND NOT INCLUDED Birth and Early Childhood in Kentucky(1809-1816) The first of the four new penny designs for the 2009 penny reverse(tails" side) features Abraham Lincoln's life as a young boy in Kentucky. Where he was born in a rude log cabin. U.S. Mint(AIP) Master Designer Richard Masters created this realistic design. Which is definitely different from my grade school textbooks' depictions of Lincoln's cabin. In the textbooks, Lincoln's cabin always seemed so neat and clean and perfectly built. I think this design really captures the reality of what a hand-built, early 19th century log cabin on the American frontier really looked ... morelike. The design was sculpted for the coin dies by U.S. Mint Sculptor-Engraver Jim Licaretz. Lincoln's Formative Years in Indiana(1816-1830) The second of the new penny designs pays tribute to Abraham Lincoln's youth in Indiana. Where he worked as a rail splitter for the railroad. Then, thrifty souls, Their quilts would live in pictured history. Irene F. Cohen This Log Cabin quilt is nothing short of BEAUTIFUL! This is a quilt from my personal collection. I found this as a quilt top from an old local estate in the heart of Amish Country. Berlin, Ohio. I had a master quilter make the quilt for me(I will supply the quilter's name to the purchaser) and once you've seen the close up pictures, you'll agree that is simply beautiful. This pattern is actually called"Capital Steps" a variation of the Log Cabin pattern. There are fabrics in this quilt that span a generation, some dating from 1860, up ... moreto 1890. The colors are as vibrant as ever ~ there are indigo blues, cadet blues, cranbery prints, black with white prints, greens, browns& cinnamons. There are plaids& paislies, checks& florals. Each strip of fabric measures only 1" wide, all pieced completely by hand. The back of the quilt is all one piece, made with bleached muslin. It has a medium weight batting. This quilt is a nice size measuring 93" x 83" it is in pristine condition ~ There are no stains. No rips or tears, etc. I have several other log cabin quilts in my personal collection that were quilted in the ditch but after I saw her quilting, I had her quilt straight through each piece of fabric, just so it could be shown off. I'm so glad I did. It looks great with 9 spi. This quilt is definitely a show stopper! This is an original Log Cabin Syrup Bottle commemorating the USA bicentennial in 1967. This is the ORANGE LABEL. The metal cap is painted to look like a cork. It stands about 8 inches in height. Most of the glass bottle is embossed with stars on the front. The Liberty Bell and 1776 and 1976 on the back, ridges on the sides, and LOG CABIN SYRUP, a log cabin drawing, an arrow, a number 10, a number 8 in a circle, and a faint 4 in a circle. Condition of the glass is wonderful, couple small scratches on the cap, and the front colorful label has some wear. Please check the photos. The quilter used two different techniques-some of the squares are made with amazingly thin logs in just two prints. Other squares use slightly larger logs in a variety of fabrics. The combination is quite stunning. The back is a classic patchwork. I love that the binding is Purple, applied on both sides. 74" x 66" This quilt has rarely been used. It's in Excellent condition. This Auction is for A Handmade Log Cabin Quilt. Measures approx. 61 inches X 73 inches. Entirely pieced together with hand stitching. Then top stitched quilted at 6-7 stitches per inch. This lovely oldie does not have any rips. Shattering or tears. I did find one spot that appears to be a color transfer near binding( shown in pictures ~ red transfer of color) Only machine work is the binding that was attached by treadle and then turned over and stitched by hand. Interior has a lofty generous amount of batting. Backing is a natural colored muslin. Please refer to pictures for further details. Quilt has not been laundered. Any questions just ask.

antique laddle tongs cast iron black smith butchering smelting log cabin hearth
I have never seen this size tools before. May be blacksmith tongs and laddle for smeltin or tools for the early butchering hearth and home. The laddle is stamped 7 forged from iron with a pour spout and is 31" long with the bowl on end 7.25 across needs cleaning and seasoning. You can see that it has been in and out of a fire and there is build up inside the cup part. The tongs are 39" working pivoting tongs that have no mark on them and hold items up to 22" wide when the tongs are fully opened and become small enough to close completly or hold a horse shoe size or smaller. If any one out there has knowledge of these items please let me know. They are both made from cast iron and they have early style curly cues on the handles both are dirty and some corrosion. Amazing 1930s Log Cabin Quilt Sunshine Shadow Pattern Pennsylvania Berks County
Wow. What an amazing log cabin pattern this is with a sunshine shadow design. With the use of light and dark fabrics an X pattern is created. There's assorted fabrics and bars pattern on back. A lot of work went into the making to give this graphic illusion. There's a mix of feedsack and other fabrics. I love the border with white polka dots on red. The quilt measures a generous 84 x 83 inches. Hand quilted 5 stitches per inch. Edges are turned and hand sewn. Batting is thin. Some age spotting. Crisp. Never used or washed.
