Antique Friedmann Precision Architects Draftsman Engineers Tools Beam Compass
This is an all original antique leather drafting/engineers/architects instrument case from the early 1900's. It belonged to my grandfather who graduated from Amherst in 1911 and went to work as an engineer for the Air Reduction Company in Chicago. They worked on perfecting the oxygen welding process. I count 28 instruments in this original set inside the velvet-lined valet. None are marked with the makers name or the grade of steel used to make them. Some of these have to be stainless of course. One of the tools has a US Patent mark on the bottom. It is the last picture in this auction. This is probably the largest vintage complete set available on the internet. After much research. I found that this set was made in the 1930's in Germany by the Friedmann Tool Company of Germany under a U.S. Patent. Up for your bidding consideration is this antique Computing Scale Company mercantile price and weight beam scale. This scale is in overall evry good condition and appears to be nearly complete and unbroken. It is made of heavy cast iron and solid brass. Sometime throughout it's lifetime. Someone overpainted the original black paint with an almond/yellow color(ick) All of the brass nameplates and accessories appear to be present and attached to the scale. The loose weights appear to be complete, but there could be one or two missing(I do not know what is suppose to be there to be honest) It is missing the piece of either glass or marble that you place the product on that's being weighed. It is clearly marked on the factory placard with the latest patent date of October 17th, 1893. It is about 4¼” high and depicts a bear holding a couple of items; possibly bottles. The bear is blue all over with the words‘Beam Bottle Collectors supporting America September 11. 2001’ printed across its chest along with the Stars and Stripes USA flag.
