Vintage Silhouette Designed Plastic Celluoid ? Box Large Lot Embroidery Thread
This is definitely a surprise box. When I took the picture I didn't notice all the contents of it but it includes lots of embroidery thread. Some beads that look like there were going to be used to design a purse(even the metal open and closing"arch" for a clutch purse is in there) spool of white thread(always good to have) and a vintage round pin cushion that looks as if it's dated to early 50s Japan. The box itself is plastic, possibly celluoid because of it's elasticity and feel and comes with a silhouette of a girl with a yellow dress by a fence, etc. The cover is lightly domed. Measures just over 7 1/2" in length and is probably 6" in width. Nice overall condition with no cracks, dings. Antique Irish Mountmellick Night Dress Case-Gold Thread Work- Unique Design
A unique rare design Irish Mountmellick night dress case in excellent condition featuring under the sea conch shells. Clam shells, coral, see grass using various Mountmellick embroidery and crewel techniques i.e. bullion stitch, indented buttonholing stitch, fish bone stitch, double knot stitch, satin stitch-flat, cable plait, French knots etc. The case measures 13" x 20" and finished with a padded button hole stitch and a knit lace edging which is not the typical Mountmellick finish which leads me to believe this was made at later time(end of the 19th C) The embroidery work is done with gold silk threads. The textile itself is a heavy jean material used for this type of needle work. The case has not been laundered and could use a light wash. It is without mends, stains, or weak areas. Vintage Japanese Ito Maki Kyoto Silk Thread Frame (1)
This is called a"木製糸巻" or"ito maki" which held silk threads used in the making of kimonos in Kyoto's famous textile center- Nishijin-Ori Kaikan. The history of Nishijin silk weaving began with the history of Kyoto itself back in 794; by the Edo Period. There were an estimated 5,000 weaving factories in the Nishijin District. Today, the district remains home to one of Japan's largest handmade weaving industries. Please see the 7th picture to see how they were used and the 8th picture shows how they can be used to display small items. The items show in the last 2 pictures are not included. These are from the early to mid 20th Century. Wooden itomaki are no longer used. This itomaki is 14.5 cm(5.7 inches) wide and 16(6.3 inches) cm tall. This will be shipped in a box.
