These 2 machinist V blocks were made by L.S. Starrett Co. They are both marked no. 278& 1/2- 20 NC. They measure approx. 1 1/4" square x 1 5/8" and each weighs 9 ounces. One has the number 1612 on it and the other has 0182 or 0132. Also one has the initials M D in marker along the groove. There are NO CLAMPS. The pieces were made in the USA. They appear to be the same size and dimensions. I do not have knowledge of tools- these were found in the basement of the home I purchased. Nice small set of L.S. Starrett No. 278 V-Blocks and Clamps Matched set I think
Bought a nice old wooden machinist chest full of older measuring tools and a few cutters. Will be listing them in separate auctions and the box when I get it empty. I will give breaks where I can on shipping so ask me if interested in more than one auction. This is for a set of two small L.S. Starrett Co. v-blocks and clamps. Blocks are number 278 and 2nd number is same on both of 5851 which I believe is a matched set of same height and other dimensions. Both clamps turn freely and are not bent. The blocks themselves have been treated good and are free of chips or rounded corners. Some signs of surface rust. Perhaps a good stoning would spruce them up a bit more but very usable. Selling as is with no returns or refunds. Please. Will fit into small flat-rate box anywhere in US for $5.50.

Starrett Matched V-Block Set CLONE, shop made, with clamps
I copied Starrett's design so that I could just buy their clamps and get to work. I also added what I believe to be improvements to the design. Both V-blocks are made from tool steel. Hardened, stabilized and precision MATCH ground to within.0002 all over. Both of the blocks have countersunk holes for 1/4-inch hold-down screws through the middle of the V. Both blocks have 10-32 tapped holes in the top face for the auxiliary clamp you see in the pictures. All 3 clamps are included in the auction) One of the blocks features 0.125 diameter holes JIG GROUND into the center of the V to use as stop points. The other block features a clearance pocket in the bottom of the V. Please ask any questions before bidding.

Starrett No.278 V- Block Set & Clamps 1"Dia Capacity Hardened & Ground,
This is a Starrett No.278 V-Block Set with Clamps. 1" Diameter Capacity, Numbered Matched Pair, Hardened and ground, 1-1/4" Square, 1-5/8" in Length. The V's are ground central, parallel and square to the ends and sides. The block has a tapped hole through the side so that it may be attached to an angle plate by a 1/4-20 thread. Used in very good condition, shows light wear, and light staining, no box. One of the Clamp screw knurled head has a grind mark on it, see last picture. EDP No.51312. Made in USA.
