This listing is for an authentic vintage antique collector's sample of barbed wire fencing. This wire features an Abram Elwood patent. Dated January 3, 1882. This wire is called"Elwood's Spread Barb Narrow Width on Twisted Lines" by collectors. ref. Hagemeier 309-B) This wire features two twisted together line wires. Barbs are two pointed made from a round barbing wire. Barbing wire is wrapped once around each of the line wires, with barbing wire changing direction of wrap between line wires. Points end up on different sides of line wires. Barbing wire wraps rest against each other between the line wires. Wire sample is 19" in length. It shows age and use wear, with very light pitting. There are six barbs, fairly well spaced, and cut is well centered. There is some bending of barbing points, but no broken or missing ... morepoints. Wire is in good used condition. This sample also features a two line factory splice at center of cut. This sample of antique barbed fencing wire is absolutely old and authentic. And sells with no reserve. C. 1890 Golf Club SPLICE NECK Fancy Face BRASSIE Eldon
This is a wonderful old splice neck brassie(It has a full heavy brass sole plate. with a face insert held in place by 5 dowels. The splice is visible just below the large size whipping that dates to before 1900. There are no scars on the base or dings in the face. The paint is still visible in the scoring. The insert is inverted in comparison to more modern clubs with the large side on top and the smaller one next to the slip. We do not know if the name in the oval on the crown is a reference to the maker or a golf course. The name is not listed in Geogiady’s Compendium, or in Jackson’s Register of British Professional Golfers. However. That notwithstanding, the club is great and in great condition. We do not know the composition of the face insert but it looks like old bull hide. The insert would have been added to the club to dampen the ... moreimpact of a gutty ball. Sadly. The old sheepskin grip is missing except for a smidgen of the old leather tucked under the whipping. What remains is the old woolen listing where the leather grip had been. Probably this was someone’s play club that was altered for the gutty ball. The only visible wear on the club is on the shaft butt and it is very worn. Someone carried it before it was changed, but for reasons unknown did not continue to carry it. It measures 41 ¼ inches long.
