This is one of the best reels I've ever used- very very smooth retrieve and casts like a dream- I liked this one so much i bought another and kept it stored(it is also listed) It has some boat rash but what used reel doesn't- the fish don't care! I take care of ALL my reels and you can see she just got a cleaning(I usually cleaned every 3-4 trips) you can see the tiny screw which locks the handle lock is a bit stripped but still comes off easily check out tackle tours review-it was their editors choice! and I can see why! Team Daiwa Advantage TD-A153HSTA Super Tuned 6.3 RH Baitcasting Reel - Upgraded!
This reel was purchased new(with two others just like it) then spooled with braid and fished briefly on a flipping rod. Total time on the rod was less than two hours. Then it was put into a fabric reel bag and has been stored inside my reel box. I have not used this reel since it was only a week old. I have others that I use regularly and feel that I will never get to use this one, as they are holding up incredibly well and aren't showing any signs of wear yet. My opinion: these TD reels are everyday workhorses that won't wear out for many more years. The"Team Daiwa" years were when Daiwas best performing reels were designed and sold. And I have too many of them, so this one may as well be taken out of my reel box and put to work. This reel was finally taken out of my reel box(last month in August) Totally disassembled and ... morethe parts and bearings cleaned with Acetone followed by 99% Isopropyl Alcohol to remove the original factory lubricants. All moving parts were then polished where they should be polished(and not polished where they shouldn't be) using a Dremel variable speed rotary tool with mohair medium and fine polishing discs and Fabulustre jewelers compound. The moving parts are highly polished to a mirror-like chrome appearance to reduce friction while increasing surface area of important parts such as the drag discs. As I said, those areas that should not be touched with polishing compound were not touched. The result is a machine that performs well beyond its intended capabilities. The level-wind shaft in these reels are housed inside a plastic sleeve bushing. It is the only rotating part on the reel that is not supported by a ball bearing from the factory. So. I installed an ABEC 7 corrosion resistant SS ball bearing on the level-wind shaft next to the drive gear, fitted snugly into the housing bore to remove all play in the shaft. The replacement bearing is easily removed for proper relubing. The factory drag washers are less than ideal on most reels including this one. So I repl
