Altec hydraulic auger drive motor for digger derrick crane
You are viewing a used hydraulic drive auger motor that I removed in good working order from a Altec brand digger derrick. It was used by a electric company to dig holes for utility poles. It comes with the hoses shown in the photos. It also comes with the mounting bolt you use to attach it to the arm on the digger derrick. But one end of the bolt has bad threads. It had a nut on both ends, we have in the past welded the nut on one end and just slide it in from the other side. That is what this bolt needs if you plan to use it. The output shaft of the drive motor is six sided and is two inches across. This is a single speed motor. If you want to use it on a digger derrick truck that has the optional two speed auger drive. We have used a single speed on them before, you just have to plug off the small third line coming out of the boom that ... moreactivates a two speed auger motor. This drive motor came from an electric company that takes these drive motors and builds a heavier mounting bracket on them. Even on a brand new truck before they ever use it. They do an excellent job and in my opinion are better built than new ones. You can see in the photos that the top of the unit is hex shaped instead of the rounded type they usually are. I have sold several of these in the past to guys that use them on skidloaders. Backhoes, and excavators. They work great for that, you just have to build a mounting plate to attach them to whatever machine you plan to use them on. Up for auction is a Ditch Witch Planetary Suger Drive(Low Speed, High Torque) I'm pretty sure this is the Pengo MS-125 drive sold by by Ditch Witch. It's in great condition- I drilled less than 50 holes with it and I'm sure it has less than 10 hours. Has a 2 9/16" round shaft. You can look at the Pengo site and the MS-125 drive or the Ditch Witch website and their specs. This auger drive was used to dig 18" holes to a depth of 8' and performed flawlessly in our rocky and heavy clay Wyoming soils. It has a 3" hex shaft which can be adapted to other sizes. We finished the one job we purchased this for and dot anticipate doing any similar projects in the near future. if you have a heavy duty digging application where you need more power than a simple bobcat auger or need a new auger for a digger derrick this is what you need. It has 15.448 ft lbs of torque in high gear and about half that in low gear. WE had it mounted on a 20 ton excavator for what we were doing and even thought about mounting it on a large frame skid steer. It comes with about 15 ft of hoses and the mount for an excavator pin. Hooked it up tonight and it ran and is quiet no bearings squeaking or anything. It isn't shiny and new but not rusted out. It does not have wheels but slides ok. One of the pipe fittings is a bit chewed up because I had to use a pipe wrench to get enough bite to change fittings to test it. but A) it is not the threads so still works. And B can easily replace hose or get a new one crimped on if you like. hoses show some age but are not falling apart or leaking( note that I didn't have under load though, just empty) We used to use it mainly to run grain through a drum separator which I plan to check out and post tomorrow. Both will be listed as pickup only but if you make freight arrangements I can load on open truck or semi trailer. Will consider delivering for a fee if not too far.
