The Chattanooga Plow Company was an world leader in plow design and production before the advent of mechanized farming. And its manufactory was once the largest in Chattanooga. The company was founded in 1877 by Newell Sanders, making and selling a plow specifically designed for southern soils and advertised as such expressly in the South. Newell Sanders& Company operated out of an eight-hundred-square-foot building manufacturing plows with castings purchased from Wheland Foundry. By 1881. Sanders and his agents were selling plows in Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. Two years later, Sanders, Charles D. Mitchell, George W. Wheland, C. C. Bloomfield, and Judson Buchanan increased the company’s capitalization, and relocated the manufactury to a new, larger location. The business was renamed the Chattanooga Plow Company, with Sanders as first, and Mitchell as secretary and treasurer. The new factory at Carter and Montgomery(now Main) Streets employed approximately three hundred people and covered six acres by 1895. Our research revealed the Raydex point was introduced in 1939, so it is assumed the plow was manufactured after that date, the wheels on the plow are 24" in diameter, one wheel is sitting on a stump to help level the implement, the hand crank will change position(height) of the outside wheel, the plow may have missing or broken parts but would be fine as a prop or yard ornament, note that one wheel is round with a somewhat oval tread and the other wheel has a rather odd shape giving it the appearance of having lugs, sort of like a tractor tire, sold as-is. This cultivator is in very good solid shape. It has alot of surface rust on it but everything turns easily. There is no cracked or broken parts. Double Eights Jointed Disk Pull Plow
This disk looks like it is set up to pull with some sort of hitch on a bar. All the disk pans are in good shape and the plow is well made. It was used with a Farmall Super C and a High Cropper on this farm. It has been sitting for a while in a high and dry spot. I have not been able to identify a maker or the proper usage. It was used with a Farmall Super C and a High Cropper on this farm. It also appears to be set for other attachments to be added as well. Gopher Poisoner - Implement / Plow
This is another colorful and useful piece of equipment that still funtions as it did decades ago. The man identifying the piece told me that he remembered using it to poison gophers. They put the treatment liquid in the hopper and pulled it first with a mule then with tractor. The disc opened a trench. Liquid was inserted and the big back roller covered the trench. I could not find any damage to the piece nor serious rust issues. It is on a high land farm in northeast TX. It is strong with very little rust. I do not think it is frozen up but did not hook it up to a tractor- did turn wheels by hand. Antique Horse Drawn Oliver Gang Plow
You are bidding on a horse drawn Oliver two bottom gang plow. This plow has been sitting for years. The wheels roll easily but all controls are stuck. The wheels have some thin spots and rough rusted edges. The plow is missing its coulters and seat. Over all this plow appears to be fairly complete. I would like to see someone restore it and use it. Oliver plows were known for quality and they are getting hard to find. I have a horse drawn Oliver cultivator for sale separately. Winning bidder will need to pick up in Hillsboro Missouri.
