Up for auction is a Milton Roy Spectronic 601 spectrophotometer. This item came to us as part of a surplus lot. The item is in decent cosmetic condition. There are some marks as well as chips in the paint but not any major damage. The unit has a sheet taped to the top of the unit with instructions for saving and storing test parameters. We have tested this unit to the best of our ability and it is in good working condition. The unit powers on and performs a self test without any errors. Once the unit is powered on the display reads"590NM 1.0 T T" At this stage all controls appear to function and no error messages are displayed. The item powered on with no problems. The display is in working condition and easy to read. The fans sound strong and the unit sounds overall very good while running. All button and knobs are in good working condition as well. In"factor" mode, I was able to change the wavelength and data by using the knobs and buttons on the unit. The wavelength goes from 311- 992 and the data goes from 0.1- 1000. In all of the other modes(Transmittance/Absorbance/Concentration) the wavelength was ... morechangeable. But the data constantly flashed 199.9 or-199.9 and was unchangeable. I am not sure if this is an error or normal behavior for the unit. Unfortunately. I am unable to test this item any further due to lack of equipment and knowledge on the item. GOOD COSMETIC CONDITION See my other related auctions too Tested: I tested absolute and relative absorbance across the full spectrum range of the unit. I used phenol red sigma p-4758. The readings came close to those made by a reference unit. I made my primary reading at 550nm. You just hit'wavelength' and punch in your wavelength it's it gets there immediately. It zeros correctly. I set the wavelength at and then at frequencies on both sides and the absorbance fell off. See the photos of my actual test. And then I put some diluted protein in and zero'd it with distilled water and then stuck the protein in. I got a ton of absorbance at 280nm. I then changed the wavelength to either side of 280 and the absorbance dropping ... moreoff. See that in the photos too. The power cord. Power switch and cooling fan all work.
