SR510 and SR530 Lock-In Amplifiers The SR510 and SR530 are analog lock-in amplifiers which can measure AC signals as small as nanovolts in the presence of much larger noise levels. Both the single phase SR510 and the dual phase SR530 have low-noise voltage and current inputs. High dynamic reserve, two stages of time constants, and an internal oscillator. In addition, both lock-ins come equipped with a variety of features designed to make them simple to use. Sine Wave Mixing. The core of the SR510/SR530 is a precision analog sine-wave multiplier. Lock-ins use a multiplier(demodulator) to translate the signal input(at reference frequency) down to DC where it can be filtered and amplified. Many lock-ins use square wave multipliers which introduce spurious harmonic responses. The SR510/SR530 use clean sine-wave multipliers which are inherently ... morefree of unwanted harmonics. Signal Input. The SR510/SR530 have differential inputs with 7 nV/√Hz of input noise and 100 MΩ input impedance. The input can be configured as a voltage input. Working, at a sale of Rockwell Collins test equipment and verified that it was in good working condition. The unit was purchased around the holidays in late December of 2012 and, although I had never trusted anyone else to pack sensitive test equipment for me, I was pressed for time and contracted a local shipper to handle the packing. I instructed the shipper to make sure there were 3-4 inches of foam all around the unit and to secure it as well as he could. Suffice it to say. This was not done and, as it was a very busy holiday season, FedEx threw it from one pile to another all across the country with absolutely no regard for what was inside. After I got it back, I noticed ... morethat there was damage to one of the handles, indicating that the shipper packed the unit with no/little padding around the handles and that there was trauma to that area of the package. When the professor who purchased the unit turned it on. A tiny wisp of smoke came from the unit and the OVLD light came on. They immediately turned it off and asked for a refund. I complied, even though they had declined shipping insurance and lost $1100 or so. Now that I have finally got around to opening up the unit for inspection. It appears that the"magic smoke" the professor was referring to was from a blown capacitor and two blown resistors on the main board. I took a picture and circled them in red.
