Working, at a sale of Rockwell Collins test equipment and verified that it was in good working condition. The unit was purchased around the holidays in late December of 2012 and, although I had never trusted anyone else to pack sensitive test equipment for me, I was pressed for time and contracted a local shipper to handle the packing. I instructed the shipper to make sure there were 3-4 inches of foam all around the unit and to secure it as well as he could. Suffice it to say. This was not done and, as it was a very busy holiday season, FedEx threw it from one pile to another all across the country with absolutely no regard for what was inside. After I got it back, I noticed ... morethat there was damage to one of the handles, indicating that the shipper packed the unit with no/little padding around the handles and that there was trauma to that area of the package. When the professor who purchased the unit turned it on. A tiny wisp of smoke came from the unit and the OVLD light came on. They immediately turned it off and asked for a refund. I complied, even though they had declined shipping insurance and lost $1100 or so. Now that I have finally got around to opening up the unit for inspection. It appears that the"magic smoke" the professor was referring to was from a blown capacitor and two blown resistors on the main board. I took a picture and circled them in red.
