This is a climbing device for tree climbing. Not being a tree climber myself. I don't know a lot about this item other than what the label reads. There is also a picture diagram of the device and how it should be used. Other than a couple of paint spills on them, this gear appears to be new. On the pamphlet on the inside, it says the item is universal however it says that the maximum weight is 310 LBS. so I assume the size of the harness is adjustable to fit an average size person who weighs up to but not over 310 LBS. This is a set of Vintage Melling Forging Company climbing spikes. It includes the spikes or gaffs along with the belt. The leather needs to be conditioned but is still in very good shape for its age. The only flaw is there is one rivet missing on one of the leg spikes. These are pretty much ready to be used or to be hung on the wall. They are a great functional piece of history and were used in the forest locally for climbing and limbing. Bolen leather leg protectors. 4646 imprinted on them. They don't appear to have seen much use either. They are still stiff from storage and little usage. Spikes are adjustable. Can be lengthened or shortened according to need. Main bar is 16" long before adding length. Lengthening bar is 7" which would allow for about 4" additional length. Very sturdy. Gaffs have good metal frames(marked 17-1/2) and spikes with old straps and pads that should be replaced. Model 52N-2HL, in excellent condition Buckingham Mfg: steel climbing spikes with L-pads& 3-1/2" permanent tree gaffs. In excellent condition Edges of leather straps and belt show some fray from use. But still meet OSHA standards for usability. Purchased@2008-2009, used until 2012, stored since then, but all three items have been well-cared-for, kept clean and dry and maintained.
