Which originated in western France in the town of Marans, are best known for their very dark chocolate colored eggs. Marans lay the darkest egg of any variety of chicken. Although rare in the U.S. due to the import ban on fowl. They are quite common in France. In 2010. The Black Copper Marans was accepted into the American Poultry Association’s Standard of Perfection. My girls are laying 4 to 5 extra-large eggs per week right now and all are averaging 4 to 7 on the color chart. One of the difficulties we face in the US is the lack of genetic diversity in this breed. Much of the breeding stock left in this country 10 years ago was of the English variety; with smooth. Unfeathered legs. The French standard calls for lightly feathered legs. Recent importation of French blood into the breed has helped bring our US birds closer to the French standard. But they are definitely still a work in progress. I continually strive to improve my line of Marans by following the French Standard. But due to their genetic background, a small percentage of chicks still hatch clean-legged(without feathers on their legs) Marans are very fast growers. Up for auction is a vintage agricultural advertising Dr. Salsbury's Phen-O-Sal advertising tin recently found in Lancaster County. PA area. There are no tablets left in this tin, but its original paperwork is still included. This is found in good used condition. The major condition issues to report is a scratch through the original price on the reverse side, as seen in photo#4. It could also benefit from a good cleaning. The lid is quite dirty with some rust issues as well. Primary colors are yellow, black, red and black. A neat advertising tin, not often found. Back of clock is marked: REG. U.S. TELECHRON PAT. OFF. MODEL 1H912.VOLTS 100/125 CYC 60 W2 UNITED STATES PATENTS 1768386.Clock measures 13 and 1/2 inches in diameter. Glass front. Second hand is missing. It does run. But I would suggest rewiring it for safety purposes. Metal surround of clock does have some very minor surface rust. I purchased it at an Estate Sale. It was produced for the French poultry society founded in 1891. This piece is signed by Henri Dropsy. It has a diameter of about 36 mm and weighs 23 grams. The edge has the word bronze. F3286a} This is a rather rare and hard to find medal. And. These types of bucolic farm medals are a delight. Henri Dropsy was born in Paris in 1885. He was the son of the medallist Emile Dropsy. So, few business signs are readable. However, on the building located just east of the alley between Market and Pearl Streets is a MEAT MARKET sign. The 1915 Sanborn insurance maps still showed a meat market at that location. The Sanborn maps identify the long two-story brick building on the south side of Main Street as the Masonic Hall. The map also indicates the post office was in this building in 1915. A sign is mounted on the west end of the awning on that building. It reads ARGUS ENTERPRISE_ PRINTERS? At the right edge of the postcard, part of a sign can be seen on the side of the building. That building sits on the southeast corner of the Market Street intersection. The sign advertises the HOME NATIONAL BANK which was located on that corner. The top of a grain elevator can be seen at the top center of the view. That is the Thorntown Grain Company elevator. It was located south of Main on Pearl Street. Information available online indicates that Leander Crist was president of Home National Bank for a few years and publisher of the Thorntown Argus-E
