The Dixie Rainbow originated from several years of mixing breeds but breeding now is Rainbow to Rainbow Good layers of large brow eggs approx 280-300 per year. They are a average growing bird and will start to lay at approx 20-22 weeks. Roosters ready to market at approx 12 weeks 7.5- 8 lbs. Hens will weigh between 6.5- 7lbs. The chicks as well as the adults are very cold hardy. My personal experience: Temperment. At least my birds are Extremly Mellow. You can walk right up to any of the Rainbows and pick them up. The Rooster are very tollerant of each other. The hens are very good layers; Cold or not they are laying; Now we have had several days already this winter(MN) with below zero temps. Multipal of colors no 2 birds are alike; Some speckled some solid but all have kind of looping tails and are a very handsom/pretty bird. The weights are consistant with above; The first few week they explode in growth to the rest of my chick but then slow/settle in after a month or so. Great free rangers. They pretty much anything that isnt nailed down. All in all very easy hardy bird to raise. I enjoy them. Any other question please ask. I will answer what I can.
