Insulators were originally installed for cattle but were removed after only 2 years to provide for horse fencing. The insulators have a manufacturer's Lifetime Warranty. This is a wood carving of a mother goose that I'm told is one of a unique pair of old fence post finials. It's owners have repainted it at least a couple of times. But it still has a primitive/farm feel. It's spent most of it's life outside so it's nicely weathered. It's a very cool carving.

Straight off the farm of the Missouri Foot Hills. An Antique Horse Head Hitching Post Topper. There was a pair at one time, the mate was stolen. This one that is left has been around for 4 generations. Made from Cast Iron, this piece has a single seam down the middle and and signs of hand forging on the face and neck. Its details are so beautiful and the Horses Mouth holds the ring that once tied off horse reins. This relic would make a fine piece of Art to display in your home on a coffee table or Book Shelf. The bottom once was connected to a pole and the fragments of the welding can still be seen on the bottom(picture 6) There is a piece of cast that makes it rock a little when pulling or pushing. The piece is very heavy and stands up fine as is. The base has a very nice zig-zag design to add character and make it even more interesting ... moreas a piece of architectural salvage. Size: 9 7/8" tall. Base- 4 1/4" Nostril to neck- 7 1/4" 3 1/4" wide, ring- 3 3/4" VERY HEAVY! Condition: The iron appears to have the original finish on it. There is rust on parts of the body, more so on the right then the left. It looks like a hairline crack on the left side under the mane on the neck. It seems not to go deep and is only on the surface. I am very pleased to offer this very nice Victorian 1800s corner/garden gate end post that was recently found recently in an estate in Western PA. The piece measures aprox 45 1/2" tall and is 4 1/2" square with original topper and end plate that you could attach to a sidewalk or platform of your choosing. It has some nice filigree in its body and this is ALL in tact with just minor wear from age with NO breaks.Repairs, or cracks. This listing features an old. Solid cast iron bird finial. I believe it was on a gate or fence since it has a threaded post on the end. It is painted white and there is the usual weather wear to the paint with some rusting as shown. I think it is wonderful. There is still some threading left on the post. The bird measures 3 1/2" tall and is 3 1/2" wide. The threaded post is 1/4" long and 1/8" in diameter. It is heavy weighing over 1 pound unpacked. Too sweet!
