1911 Albaugh-Dover Butterfly Cream Separator Poster& Order Form– Chicago IL Up for auction is an original. 1911 Butterfly Cream Separator Company poster(2-sided) for Cream Separators manufactured by Albaugh-Dover of Chicago, Illinois. The poster measures about 18" X 23¼” The graphics are elegantly drawn and very bright especially considering that they are 102 years old! The order form or“Order to Ship” form on one side and“Table of Freight Rates” on the other side measures about 7” X 10¼” It's always nice to know the history of any artifact you acquire so here’s some information. T he firm constructed their factory and warehouse complex on 21st and Marshall Boulevard in 1905. The Albaugh-Dover plant. Located along the Burlington railroad line, manufactured and distributed washing machines, cream separators, gears, pinions ... moreand furniture. Cream separators were likely a big moneymaker for Albaugh-Dover. The company also produced a line of tractors, and even an early car called a“high-wheel motor buggy” named the Aldo, around 1910. By 1950 the factory had vacated the Marshall Boulevard location. Whether they continued in business elsewhere is unknown; however. The separator is made of cast iron with brass containers which can be attached for spinning milk. It works like a centrifuge, separating the cream from the milk to test the quality/ richness of the product. It is in very good condition, especially given the age. As can be seen in the photos, there is wear from time and use in the past. The tester has been well stored/ displayed this last many years. The measurements are as follows: 10 1/2" tall. 11 1/2" handle. 5" cups. 5" across base at widest part. 4 1/2" across spinner mechanism at widest part 9 1/2" across spinner cup mechanism.
