Our young hens just started laying for their first time and our initial test batch hatched out at over a 95% success rate from the 100 eggs we hatched. The bird are extremely hardy. Doing very well in our New England winters, prolific layers, laying an egg a day, and extremely friendly. We often see them roosting on the back of our Llama, Bobo. We have been refining and selectively breeding our birds over at least five generations. The results have been great. With a exceptional hens and beautiful roosters. Some are rumpless, some double tufted. We even have been lucky to get some show-quality roosters and a few hens that actually have blue feathers. In addition to breeding for good temperament and egg laying, we have been refining our flock to ensure that excess roosters make good broilers. As a result, these birds are larger than your standard Araucana. The hens start laying at approximately 4 months. As you can see from the photos, eggs are beautiful blue, sometimes they have more of a green hint, and one of our hens even lays PINK eggs. Our entire flock is completely free range. Antibiotic and hormone free. They have tested negative for all diseases. We allow them to free range at our 35 acre farm. Their water comes from a moving stream that runs past our property and goes into a reservoir. We only feed them supplemental, vegetarian grain in the winter, if things are really cold outside. They absolutely love insects, good foragers, and they spent their entire time maturing this year in our tomato fields, keeping the aphids away. Though they are probably known more as a meat bird, with the average weight of roosters being 13 pounds and the hens 11 pounds. They are in fact, the largest purebred chicken. However due to their slow growth rate, they are not raised as broilers in the meat industry. They actually lay well for a large breed chicken, laying an average of 180 large brown eggs annually and are persistent layers even in cold weather. The Jersey Giant originated in New Jersey in the late 19th century. The Black Jersey Giants were accepted by the American Poultry Association(APA) in 1992 and Blue become recognized in 2002. Blue results in black. Blue and splash, though splash is still not approved by the APA. Their shanks and toes are black or slate with some willow green except for yellow skin showing on the bottoms of the feet. They are a very friendly chicken and make good pets as the roosters rarely exhibit aggressive behavior. Our flock contains the Jack McCurdy bloodlines and some sired by a show quality Black Jersey Giant rooster we had in 2011. This is a rooster and chicken decorated wall style tin match box holder from the 1920's-1930's. It was made by Jasco Co. It has two open areas on both sides to strike the match. Offered here is a nice Albert Coles Coin Silver Medallion crumber. Made circa 1860. This beautiful crumber has a twisted handle and a Roman soldier facing left. The blabe is nicely bright cut with a boy in a waist coat in the center of the blade feeding chickens on the right, on the right with a duck running towards him on the left. There is a building to the right and he has clouds on both sides. There are heavy very thick scrolls on either side of the scene, The back and sides of the blade are nicely scalloped. These three have images of horses, ducks, and chickens I believe they are from the 1960s, I'm sure they aren't from later as they are from my family. There is a clear carrier pack that comes with the set of three. There are some minor creases and discolorations on the images, see photos) but, generally, they are in great shape for their age. 800x600 Early Pearlware Saucer or Tea Bowl FEEDING CHICKENS ~ WILD ROSE BORDER Job Ridgway Staffordshire. England c. 1805 This is a stunning pearlware transfer printed saucer or tea bowl. Originally part of a complete tea set. The saucer measures 5 1/4" in diameter. The color is a rich medium blue with a pearlware glaze. The saucer is decorated with a transfer printed image of a woman feeding chickens from a basket of corn while a kneeling child holds out his hand for some. The delicate decoration is very rich. With little white space. There is no maker's mark except for a partially readable printed numeral that may read 09. According to the Transferware Collectors Club pattern database. The pattern has been found with an impressed lower-case"Ridgway" mark, probably indicating that it was made by the Job Ridgway factory ... morein 1802-1808, although another version called'Feeding Chickens' was also made by Riley. The saucer is in very good condition. And displays beautifully. There is a small nip on the foot rim, probably an enlarged stilt mark, and a bump in the well of the bowl, original to the making and glazed over before the original firing. A wonderful deep saucer, offered as is, in a very desirable pattern, perfect for farm life rooster cock or chicken fanciers, and advanced collectors of early pearlware dishes. Beautiful German Tea Set Barnyard Roosters and Chickens Porcelain Luster Marked
Very nice child's tea set made in Germany. The set is marked Germany 282 on all 14 pieces. The set and the is in excellent condition with the exception of one of the plates which has a chip as can be seen in the image above. I actually think that I chipped this one when wrapping. The set was found in the attic of the estate of an 86 year old lady and was wrapped in newspaper that was 1957. I am not sure how old the set is but it is wonderful. The colors are astounding as can be seen in the images. The set includes Pot with creamer and sugar with a lid. Four little plates. Three teacups and four saucers. I am sure at one time it was a four place setting. I am not sure of the maker. This is one of the toys that were found in the attic that I will be listing today. Offered is a 8 1/2" display or cabinet plate made by Royal Bayreuth circa 1910. It has a scene of a girl gathering wheat with chickens in the foreground and sheaves of wheat in the background. Natural color palette. The smooth rim is trimmed in gold. The plate has the blue double lion Royal Bayreuth P T Bavaria stamp. In excellent vintage condition No cracks. Chips or fleabites noted Mild roughness along the edge of the crown of the rooster. He also has a small fleck of glaze/paint missing at the tip of his tail-we believe this is due to age wear of thinner glazing Both do have crazing typical for age Overall very nice set! Both are referenced in"Collecting Royal Copley Identification and Value Guide 2006 by Joe Divine" Page 33. Paper label only. The paper labels are missing on this lovely pair which is also typical.
