Large Beautiful Real Beehive Unusual
I'm not sure if this hive was made by hornets. Wasps, or bees. It was found in an apple orchard in upstate NY. What makes it unique is that it was built just off the ground, in a huge prickerbush. The few branches attached have prickers.be careful! There are 3 layers of honeycomb that can be seen from a hole. I wish the pictures were better. The hive measures about 14" in its longest diagonal and about 8" across. It's in good solid condition. Antique GERMAN APOTHECARY Flow Blue COVERED Jar pot Container BEEHIVE MARK
This attractive antique apothecary jar measures about 6" high to the rim. 7.5" to the top of the lid, and about 4.5" in diameter. Over time, putting the lid on and off has worn down the glaze on the top rim a bit and something has stained the upper inside edge(see last photo) However, this staining cannot be seen from the outside with the lid on(except for a tiny bit you can see in the photo of the back of the jar just under the edge of the lid) Otherwise, the jar is in excellent condition with no other staining, and no chips, cracks nor crazing. The lid itself is in excellent- almost mint- condition. The two rows of under-glaze cobalt blue floral decoration have flowed nicely. Giving the jar a warm, soft look. I do not know what was stored in this jar(Erblen? Frblen? Grblen? If anyone knows, I would certainly appreciate hearing ... morefrom you! I do not know who made this jar. There are four marks on the underside. One is a hand printed number 74 under glaze in the same flow blue as the design. Two partially impressed marks appear to be two bars under the beehive/triangle mark. And what looks like a capital L or number 7. The last mark is the under-glaze maker's mark in a blue/green-gray. It is a shield(aka'beehive' inside a round-cornered triangle. Three sides have writing, but I can only make out DEPOSE on one side- which is a French word, so it could possibly be French. One side I cannot make out at all and the third side has a word that looks like it ends in UTTY. Again, if anyone can help, I'd appreciate hearing from you! Please excuse the bright lighter color of brown in some of the pictures. It is the dark brown Flamestone fluted color. This piece has the light green glaze in the center. The picture of the inside of lid looks white. But it is light green in real life. 7.5" tall including the lid. The casserole base itself is 3" to 3 1/8" tall. It is a total of 8 1/8" diameter from side to side. The open areas diameter is 7.75" It is 2.75" deep on the inside. It holds 2 Qt. or 2 Liters or 8 Cups. The Flamestone Danmark Dansk hallnark has practically worn off of the bottom. You can barely see a little bitof the yellow color of the stamped logo with a magnifying glass. I have 2 other pieces of Flamestone up for auction and will happily combine shipping at a discount. Great to Good vintage condition. No chips. No cracks. No nicks. ... moreNo crazing. No scratches in the brown color. The lids green glaze is excellent condition and on the round base bottom casserole portion the inside light green glaze color has light usage stain in the middle area and some lighter stains or usage marks extended outward. There possibly is a cleaning product to remove the light brown color. As there is no crazing and it feels smooth and does not look that bad. I found through research the light green color on the inside was discontinued and the actual manufacturing status is not known. On the dark brown outside portion/area, I find a small shiny squiggly line mark and a few not very noticeable marks like thumprints or light soil.probably age wear useage in the color. These are not bad or extremely noticeable and blend in with the piece. I have not attempted to clean this as I do not know the proper cleaning agent for this type of material. For your consideration is a two gallon stoneware jug. This jug is the beehive style with a slightly ovoid shape and the glaze has more than one color. This jug was made in such a way that part of the handle is above the opening. This jug has a maximum height of approximately 11 1/2" and the bottom is almost 9 3/8" in diameter. The yellows and browns are the different colors in the glaze. However the dark red was made by me where I colored glaze peeling, glaze flaking and other imperfections with a permanent felt tip marker; I can't criticize myself for the coloring, because it does look better. This jug has 0 cracks, however it does have a chip on the opening and many chips around the bottom. Please, carefully examine the pictures, as the pictures are part of the description. Antique Early Round Top Double Window Beehive Mantle Clock S.C.G.R. Clock Co.
What you are looking at here is a very unusual round top clock. It is an early japanese mantle clock from likely around the 1880's. This is NOT a new junky chinese clock. But instead is a rare, antique, and fine quality clocks. This clock was manufactured by the S.C.G.R. clock company in japan. And features beautiful reverse painted panel on the lower glass, and a hand painted tin dial. The front door has brass fitting on it, which is quite unusual. Everything on this clock is in great condition, as you can see from the pictures. The reverse painting appears to be original. The door can be locked from a keyhole in the side of the case, which is a feature usually used on higher quality clocks. The original paper label is even in beautiful condition on the inside of the clock, as well as a sales sticker, very old in paper can still be seen ... moreon the back of the case. An exceptional 19thC. American Beehive Jug. Glazed in extra-dark(almost black) Albany Slip, ca.1860. Features an applied strap handle, very-desirable Bird's Beak Spout, and a single incised line around the shoulder. Unmarked, but likely a Southern piece for Molasses or Whiskey. This is a very nice example with beautiful, early form and proportion; 1Gal. capacity. Excellent overall condition. There are a few minor nicks on the spout, two glaze skips on the body(handle left) and a crescent-shape scar that occurred in the making(see close-up) Also, several drips and fingerprints near the base. Tobacco spit marks included(these marks appear on stoneware before Glazing.Not sure if it is really Tobacco or just a name given to the spots over the years) There is also a fingernail size chip near the spout. This small handled jug(half gallon. Possibly) is in very good condition. It has a semi-glossy glaze that covers the side and 1” into the lip interior. Besides minor scuffing, its only from-use blemish is a crack on the lip. During manufacturing, some glaze has dripped to the bare ring at the bottom of the jug. The provenance of the jug cannot be determined as it has no markings. It has a handmade quality in the irregularity of the cylinder and glaze drips along base. The estate I purchased this from. I wasn't able to get a lot of history on it. But, I love, loved and love it; The most unusual/unique design and color. The description on the invoice states'Gilbert Mantle Clock with red case' As you will see in one of the pictures. Near the middle'Gilbert 1807' In fine print at the bottom, Made by Gilbert at Winsted Conn. U.S.A. I cannot find one to compare to but did get a little information from someone else that is a little more knowledgeable than me- Gilbert Boulle Painted Mantel Clock- Circa 1920 American Gilbert Clock Company 8 Day Mantel Clock with 4.5" Good original signed silvered dial. Spring driven damascene brass movement with gong strike, Well decorated small mantel clock. I noticed the key that they gave me when I purchased. It works but is not the original clock key ... moreto wind it with. It also doesn't look to have the little weight piece that would be easy to replace. All the other internal parts look to be there. I did get it to chime and love the sound. I am not sure of the working mechanism. Etc. since it looks to be missing the weight piece. I was told. Again, these can be easily replaced. I am hoping that's all it needs. I did upload 12 pictures/photos so hopefully you can tell more about it and the condition. I am hoping the pictures will speak for themselves. It has the convex type glass over the face of the clock and the clock itself is a beehive shape. It stands/displays approximately 7 1/2 inches tall. This Seth Thomas beehive mantel/shelf or parlour clock has a spring driven brass movement marked with the Seth Thomas logo. Made in America, and 89C. It strikes on the half hour and on the hour with two hammers: one striking on a bell and one striking on a wire gong. It has a shiny brass bezel, black Arabic numbers, 3 key posts, and a metal lion's head on the front of the reddish brown mahogany? wooden case. Here's a great-looking original 1920's-1930's vintage cotton cloth flag from the city of Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County. New York. This large orange, white, and blue-colored flag measures approximately 6 feet x 4 feet. There are 2 brass grommets on the left white border so the flag could be hung. The flag is decorated in the center white section with the Poughkeepsie seal depicting bees swarming around a large beehive. Above the swarming bees are the stylized words"CITY OF POUGHKEEPSIE" Below the beehive are the dates"1799-1854" This flag was made by the Paul Reighardt Decorating Company in Poughkeepsie. Which is stamped in a few places along the flag's left side white border. The name J.M. Corcoran, possibly the flag's original owner, is also stamped in the white border. It was likely made for an early 20th century Poughkeepsie city anniversary or celebration. 1799 is the year the city of Poughkeepsie became an incorporated village. Antique Early New Haven Round Top Beehive Mantle Clock All Original
This is a great very early New Haven beehive clock. This clock is all original. Including the original reverse painted glass on the door. The case has a round top with veneer throughout, very little loss to the veneer on the clock as seen in the pictures. The dial is the original painted tin dial, but it could use a restoration. The clock has its original movement that pendulum, but it could probably use a cleaning to run properly. Please review all the pictures above for any information I may have missed in my description.
