This is a Sprague Tel-Ohmike Model TO-5 Capacitor Tester/ Analyzer. It comes from the estate of a radio controlled airplane hobbyist who built his own airplanes and radio controls. He was a perfectionist and I would be surprised is it did not work"all the way" We plugged it in and it lights up as we would expect. However, it has not been tested so we are selling it as is. We did replace the power cord as the original one was a bit frayed and we did not want to take a chance on it shorting out or anyone getting hurt. Cosmetically it looks good with no scratches or dents in the metal case. The leather carrying strap is still very solid. all the buttons. Switches, and dials work freely, as they should.

If you are reading this then you know about these. The extra calibration caps included are: 1- 200pF JFX 1% 500V 1- 2uF JFX 1% 630V This unit i fully recapped from capacitors ordered from JustRadios. Fully corrected and aligned the big main needle(tough job! trimmed the plastic casing set points internally so that the casing does not interfere with the needle movement(these plastic cases can warp over the decades) cleaned all pots and switches, tested the tubes on a tube tester and the tubes performs at 100%+, and generally gone over some cosmetics. The 200pF ... morereference cap on these old bridge units tend to be rock solid over the years so i chose not to replace it. The only thing left to finish on this one is replace the 50K pot which on the front panel is labeled"Voltage. and then to follow the steps of the calibration kindly listed at the TubeSound website. The unit functions with the current pot but the higher ranges of this pot are not reliable so to use this unit's full voltage range(around 600V+) you will want to replace this pot. It is worth noting that if you plan to use this bridge for testing only components rated below say 250VDC, you are good to go if you know what you are doing and you understand how to switch between the ranges to accomplish this. I visually checked over this 50K pot inside and you can see it was burnt out at a certain couple of points in the higher ranges. It's not difficult to replace the pot and you can acquire one from bob at TubeSound and other places. So almost all of the dirty work is done. I invested about 200$ total in this unit and have spent many hours on it. But am willing to let it go now since it was a mostly for fun project and I don't actually need a high voltage capaci

Up for sale. A restored resistor and capacitor tester from 1955 by Knight. It's a beauty with all original knobs on snuggly but not stripped, and the fine condition case and face. Spring loaded handle working 100% Indicator tube is nice and fully bright and has better contrast than the picture shows(shaddow is darker. When I got this it hardly worked at all and not properly. After a complete recapping it now functions correctly. There is a pic of it hooked to a 0.05mF at 600V orange drop cap. It reads on scale 2 and it reads right at 0.05 on the dial- nice and accurate. I tested also a 22mF at 450 electrolytic and it read right at 22 on the 0-100mF scale- excellent. Also tested the leakage section and it works as designed now opening the shadow on the green tube as the cap charges up. Then quickly closing and re-opening as it discharges ... moreto ground when the spring loaded test knob is released- correct. Extremely handy tester to have and does test both electrolytics and foil/paper bypass and coupling types for shorts. Open condition, and intermittant. Includes the original instruction manual which you will need to fully understand all its' capabilities. No test leads included. I just use clip leads. Sprague Tel-Ohmike TO-5 Capacitor Analyzer: Tested, working, Guaranteed!
Hi Folks! Today for your consideration. I’m offering a working, recapped Sprague TO-5 Capacitor Analyzer. The tester reliably and reasonably accurately measures the capacitances of all types of capacitors from around 10 pF-2000 uF. Their power factor, and electrolytic leakage in two ranges(6-60 volts DC, 60-600 volts DC) It will also measure insulation resistance. And turns ratios of transformers. AND it reforms electrolytic capacitors! If you are working with older electronics or tube equipment. This is THE piece of test equipment to get! The display uses a type 1629 Magic Eye tube as an indicator. The tube is BRIGHT! I checked the other two tubes on my TV-7 military transconductance tester for quality and shorts. Both the 6C4 and the 1619 are healthy. And way above minimum test values. The 6C4 reads a 108 with 55 being minimum. The 1619 ... morereads 70 with 43 being minimum. This was mostly equipped with more modern caps that don’t leak. So they haven’t been replaced. I did replace the 2uF paper foil reference capacitor. Which was leaky as a sieve! The non-leaky but way out of tolerance.02 uF reference capacitor was also replaced(this piece was 15% off! Both of these caps were replaced with hand selected units so they were within ½ of 1 per cent of value. If the reference capacitors aren’t right. The test set won’t be as accurate as it can be. That’s why the values I got testing my set of reference caps were so close to their actual values! IF SOMEONE OFFERS YOU A TO- SERIES ANALYZER AND THE REFERENCE CAPS HAVEN’T BEEN CHECKED OR REPLACED. RUN AWAY! THINGS WILL ONLY END IN TEARS FOR YOU, AS THE LARGE CAPS ARE ALL LEAKY, NOT ACCURATE, AND WILL FAIL.
