What we have here is an instrument to measure the apparent resistivity of the ground. There are many widely different arrangements and equipment available to do this. This device falls under the method known as Gish- Rooney after the pair who devised it in 1925. The measure of resistivity in the field of geophysics is one of the oldest methods. This meter was probably made in the late 1950's to early 1960's. The Gish-Rooney meter is similar to an instrument called a Megger which was developed primarily for the use of power and communications companies to test the grounds of power stations and transmission towers. The Gish-Rooney meter measures the current and voltage separately to obtain the apparent resistivity which is somewhat more accurate than the Megger and more suitable to geophysical surveys. This is a Wavetek model 750 phase meter. Designed for accurately measuring the phase difference in degrees between two different AC signals. It has a five digit Nixie tube display, and the measuring range is 10Hz to 2MHz, with voltage inputs from 1mV to 340V rms. Accuracy is 0.1% and the amplitude ratio between the two channels can be up to 1004:1. There is also an analog output of-10mV per degree of phase. Unfortunately, the input B volts range button cap is broken off, but rest assured that the switch itself still works perfectly when pressed with a suitable plastic rod or pen cap. The missing button cap is not difficult to obtain and replace. This instrument also of course includes the special rounded rectangle type 163 power cord which is difficult and expensive to obtain. Here we have a Hewlett Packard 432A rf power meter with HP 478A sensor head tested and working fine. I've applied signals from my Marconi 2019A into the sensor the results are shown in the photos. Please bear in mind my Marconi is not calibrated. The 432A does drift when measuring low power levels.But in my experience this is usual for this type of instrument. I just leave it switched on for a few hours and use the fine zero switch. There is a plethora of information available on the internet for this instrument. I have found it to be a very rugged and reliable piece of equipment. I'm very happy to accept returns. You are welcome to collect. Typical wear for something used of this age, some surface scratches, and some wear on the case, strap is broken and taped, a name and number marked on surface of face.
