I recently tested the unit at a multi-station FM transmitter site and found it worked well during basic measurements on several stations. The station's engineer who allowed me access was able to see that his station was under modulating in regard to the other stations at the site. How could you really know for sure without the right measurement tool? He didn't know but is now confident his station is competitive with the others. This is a Potomac Instruments FIM-41 AM field intensity meter. this unit was literally rescued from a dumpster after being flooded in salt water.during Hurricane Sandy. The unit was completely submerged. I opened it up washed it out with fresh water and it has been sitting ever since. There is a lot of corrosion. Check the photos. It may have a usable part inside. You are looking at a used 3M 6500 Recorder Test Set. It is made by Data Check Corporation but is Marked 3M. F or testing on Ampex reel to reel recorders. This uses a composite test signal which allows testing of: input and output levels frequency response harmonic distortion signal to noise ratio tape transport flutter. There is an instruction sheet on top of the unit for ease of use without the manual. This is a solid state instrument. This unit looks good overall. With only a few scuffs: power button is stuck wear to the outer case missing test dial cap dent in back end of left side panel. Was powered on and tested with its power cord-which is NOT included-and powers on. However. Full functionality is unknown due to a lack of trade knowledge; meter moves when dial is adjusted, but not significantly; doesn't react to self-test or battery ... moretest.
