For your consideration: One vintage Pelouze UPS Parcel Post Scale that has a limit up to 70 pounds. It measures approx. 13 X 11 inches. It is very nostalgic and carries us back to the pre-digital days when mechanical quality was what was important in instruments. Not electronics. It appears to be very accurate and has a scale-lock mechanism as well as a calibration dial on the side. Condition wise there is no overt physical damage. Old marble,brass&wood apothecary scale with weights...calibrated!
Here is a vintage marble top apothecary scale(18 in X8h X7w) with a complete set of weights. It has brass trays on a wood case with beading(a couple of inches of beading missing. See pic) The trays polished up nicely. The finish is as is on the wood. Scales like this date somewhere between the late 1800's and early 1900's. It has been balanced by gluing a thin circle of aluminum under one tray, so that the scale zeros out nicely when that tray is placed on the metal holder marked"L" I found no makers mark anywhere on this piece, though I did not take it apart to look inside the mechanism. Besides being decorative and interesting, this scale can be used! There are 8 gram weights, from 50g down to 1g. There is a set of five"DR" weights, a different measure called a"drachm" There are 7 tiny aluminum chip ... moreshaped weights, from 500 mg down to 10mg. Vintage Postal Scale Mid 1950's "Winners Weigh Wisely"
It's hard to believe this actually weighs mail. But according to the instructions on the bottom, it did. Don't know whether it still does. It came down through my family but I don't know where it's from or how we got it or even when. In reading the postal rates on the bottom, I'm guessing the 1950's. The base measures 3 1/2" and the total piece is 3" tall. the 3 circular bases appear to be plastic coated and the top part that holds the mail for weighing, is some type of metal. It's a fun vintage piece.
