It measures 7 1/2" inches in diameter with a press moulded Gothic alphabet surrounding the rim. The central image is transfer printed in brown and hand decorated with wisps of green yellow and red underglaze enamel paint. The art work is unsigned and the original source of the design is unknown. The plate is marked'Staffordshire England' It was made by Charles Allerton& Sons during period of 1865-1880. The plate features the storied characters from the Punch and Judy puppet show(dating back to Italy in the early 17th century) of Punch. The naïve and hasty style adds to the folksy charm. Plates like this were made as gifts for good children and rewards of merit. Used to aid in children's education and moral training, and to encourage their imaginations in the early to mid-19th century. This particular unit has the built in security taking care of the DONGLE issue needed to run on the older 340. Windows XP has been the preferred program for years and I'm told directly from Kimoto support that there is an upgrade for any WINDOWS 8 users out there that must be purchased directly from Kimoto. This unit has very low usage and comes with the 410 RIP disc and 4 slightly used ribbon discs installed ... moreready to use. I have been in the printing business for over 25 years and have to recommend this for anyone looking for a CTP advantage over traditional plate makers. I purchased this unit with full intent of using it for myself but don't see me having time in the near future to utilize such a great machine. Unit is guaranteed to work properly under the correct operating specs recommended by Kimoto. If you are an XP user you will have no problems running this unit as designed and as recommended by Kimoto. The test plates are beautiful with no back imaging what so ever. Like I stated before this unit was not used very much at all. I would estimate under 100 plates total have been produced in the past with this unit. All you would need to do is purchase your particular plate size desired from Kimoto or any source that sells genuine Kimosetter plates. And on an XP operating system away you go.
