I put the output of this to my ocilloscope and everything works. there are only two problems with this unit. 1. the power switch sticks in the on position and sometimes you have to slide your finger off of it to get it to pop out when you turn it off. 2. when changing the dials for Hz sometimes the signal would disappear until the dial is touched or tapped or bumped then it would come back. I believe this would be fixed by a good service, cleaning and calibration. I would say if you are using this for anything important at all that you would want to have that done anyway. Or for you HAM guys, do it yourself anyway. Please note. The unit does not come with a power cord, any PC power cord will work, I used the one from my PC thats why you cant have it. ITEM DESCRIPTION You are bidding on a Hewlett Packard(HP) model 3312A Sweep Function Generator. The 3312A was the last and most sophisticated analog function generator produced by HP. It combines two signal sources in a single box to produce a wide variety of test signals from 0.01 Hz to 13 MHz. The two generators can be used separately for tests of multiple input devices such as modulators, or combined to produce AM or FM modulated output with the choice of sine, square, or triangular waveform modulation. The modulation generator can also gate or trigger the main generator to give single-cycle or multiple-cycle modes of operation that greatly expands the variety of waveforms that the 3312A can produce(narrow low-duty-cycle pulse trains, pulse bursts, etc. The modulation generator can also sweep the main generator up to two decades in frequency ... moreat sweep rates as slow as 1 sweep per 100 seconds. This auction includes the sweep generator, power cord and a highly detailed operating and service manual(original– not a photocopy) with change bulletin. Nothing else in the photos is included. CONDITION This item is in exceptionally good used condition. Fully functional, and clean inside and out(no corrosion) The first picture shows a nicely modulated AM signal, which requires both internal generators to be functioning properly. The calibration seems on or close to spec except that the frequency dial is significantly off above 10 MHz. There are minor blemishes from years of use but no significant damage. The manual is in very good condition and has been annotated to incorporate the manual changes(pen& ink) MISCELLANEOUS This is a very impressive piece of test equipment. They just don’t make them like this anymore(gold clad conductors. Means that the YIG Tuned Oscillator works) The Plug-in unit had a problem with the amplifier used for the 0.1 to 2 GHz range. I replaced the amplifier with two MiniCircuits model ZFL-2000(10 to 2000 MHz amplifiers) This provides enough gain and power to get the output signal to-13 dBm +/ 1 dB. HP 8601A SWEEP OSCILLATOR
This unit has been on my workbench for years and has done everything I’ve ever asked of it. I am upgrading equipment so now it is time for it to have a new home. We did a thorough operational check. The frequencies are all in spec, the output is accurate with one problem(noted below) and the 30% modulation was set correctly, sweep widths were right on, markers worked as they should, very much everything except for the output above about 105 MHz at higher outputs. It passed all checks except for the output would start to drop above about 105 mHz and dropped about 2 dB below spec on higher powers. Below 105-106 MHz or below 0 dBM everything was great. Pictures show it used with a crystal detector(not included) and hooked to a scope(also not included) in full sweep at 10 dBm, sweeping a 24 MHz crystal and sweeping 10 MHz wide at 30 MHz with ... morethe 5-MHz markers on. The output is shown on an accurate Booton wattmeter and HP 8601 modulation monitor(not included) The cabinet was given a fresh coat of HP blue-gray. Includes the 8601A, and a reprint of the HP service manual– this is one of the best written tech manuals ever– wish everything was written this well) Box is 12X12X24 and 25 pounds.
