What we have here is an instrument to measure the apparent resistivity of the ground. There are many widely different arrangements and equipment available to do this. This device falls under the method known as Gish- Rooney after the pair who devised it in 1925. The measure of resistivity in the field of geophysics is one of the oldest methods. This meter was probably made in the late 1950's to early 1960's. The Gish-Rooney meter is similar to an instrument called a Megger which was developed primarily for the use of power and communications companies to test the grounds of power stations and transmission towers. The Gish-Rooney meter measures the current and voltage separately to obtain the apparent resistivity which is somewhat more accurate than the Megger and more suitable to geophysical surveys. This is a meter apparently made by Loral. It has two scales. One of which goes from 50-500 preceded by"X 1" and"X 10" and the other goes from 100-1000 preceded by"X 2" The notation on the meter says Pulse Rate Frequency MR26B200DCUA and HM2 and near the bottom of the dial- LORAL#43-1001-1-B and REV. 3 and 110 degrees(110 degrees of rotation is how much the needle moves going from the"0" mark to the highest number on the scale) The maximum diameter of the meter(the front flange where the mounting holes are) is 2.7 inches. The maximum depth is ~ 1.8 inches. It appears to be in pretty good condition except for some age discoloration of the outer edge of the glass. And the beginning of some mild rust. On the back one of the two terminals has a plus sign next to it, so apparently polarity is important when ... moreconnecting it. There is an anchor image with"U S" next to it, so maybe this was originally used by the US Navy. I don't have the equipment I would need to make a test of this meter. So I am selling it AS IS.
