PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION. This is a partially working oscilloscope. Channel 2 has some digital noise on it. And the error log complains about a possibly bad memory chip. The other three channels work perfectly, but at 2GS/s(when all converters are interleaved) there is some digital noise as well. Insta-Vu mode also doesn't produce a trace. Signal Path Compensation routine always passes. The screen and the rest of the scope are in excellent shape. Guaranteed to be in the condition described. But no returns if the unit is opened. Up for auction is a Tek TDS540C 4 channel 500MHz oscilloscope with Instaview. This unit is loaded with options. Including: 13- Serial/parallel option. 1F- Floppy drive. HD- Hard drive 2M- Extra deep memory- up to 8M acquisition length. 2F- Advanced DSP math. This unit works great on all channels. Triggering works on all channels. Display is nice and bright, with no burn marks. SPC passes every time, error log is clean. The floppy drive works, I can save waveforms on the scope and read them using my laptop USB drive. The original hard drive was replaced with a Flash hard drive, so you have no worries about the hard drive giving up. There's a ton of storage on this unit! See the pictures of the hard drive file listing if you are interested. The NVRAM and RTC clock calendar have been socketed with gold machine pin sockets and replaced with ... morenewer parts, so no worries about having issues with the batteries dying anytime soon. Since the parts are now socketed, replacement will be a snap in the future. Everything works on this scope. And if you find an issue with this scope I will refund your money. I have included pictures showing all channels working with a 20Mhz sinewave. This is a beautiful piece of gear, the color equivalent of this scope would be the TDS754C. The unit is very clean, only some slight blemishes/scratches on the front bezel from normal usage. I cannot guarantee calibration, however, as it has been some time since it was last calibrated. This is the first tds scope I've ever worked on and don't have a manual. Although I look at a comparable manual online. It runs windows 98, but I do not suggest that you add it to your sub-net(too many bad guys know the backdoors to windows) You can change the floppy drive out with a USB array or SD card interface. Tektronixs TDS644A 500Mhz 4 Channel Digital Oscilloscope with color display
This is a Tektronix TDS-644A 500Mhz 4 channel oscilloscope with color display. It has a sample rate of 2Gs per second. The color display is really nice in that it allows you to easily see your settings and readouts for each channel. You can even set the readouts to all kinds of colors. Don’t know why you would need that but you can do it. I got this from a friend who bought it off e-bay a few years ago and it didn’t work when he got it. I did some research and found that many Tektronix scopes suffer from surface mount electrolytic capacitors leaking on their analog board and causing the ACQ failure on the power up tests. I replaced ALL of the electrolytic capacitors on the analog board and then cleaned up all residual leaked electrolyte. I gave the board a good soak and scrub in alcohol. Then a rinse and scrub under the faucet, and then let ... morethe board dry in the sun. After installing the board and running the scope’s internal calibration routines it works well! The scope has far too many features to list. You can have data readouts(voltages. Periods, pulse width, frequency, overshoots, etc) that can be assigned to just one channel or any of the other channels. Makes taking measurements so much nicer. The cursor functions allow for time or voltage(and even both at the same time) differentials to be easily measured(no need to count grids and do math in your head) It even has FFT functions but I have never played around with those. You can even save setup configurations as well as record waveforms on the scope or save/copy them to the floppy. This is clearly the best scope I have ever gotten my hands on. In fact. Its actually overkill for my needs. I have another(lesser) Tektronix scope that works well for me. I have had this guy for a couple years and had a hard time deciding to sell it. But, there is another very expensive piece of equipment that I want for developing a gizmo I want to produce so I gotta raise bucks to buy it. The only flaw is I had to mount the laptop drive with cable ties! The drive weighs only 6 ounces so it is very secure but I do suggest once you receive the scope you remove the cover first to verify it hasn't moved before plugging it in. Update I just purchased a HP 1160A probe 500 MHZ probe Sunday October 5th I added three new pictures. One is the self-test. The warning about the actuators is actually an error due to battery failure(see above) The actuator count can be reset. The next picture the calibration screen showing everything OK and the final test shows the sine wave response to a 100MHZ input. Everything is normal.
