The Draper era represents a unique study of the growth and development of a New England mill town. In 1886. The three Draper Brothers of the third generation, still doing business at George Draper& Son were ready to increase their part in the loom field. They decided to undertake the design and manufacture of an automatic loom. There had been many patents of automatic devices but not one of them had ever proved practical: nor were any of them in successful operation anywhere. In its prime. Over 3,000 people were employed there. The plant had over 1,400,000 sq. feet of floor space and 50 acres in Hopedale, Mass. In the late sixties. Control of the Draper Corporation was passed to Rockwell International. Japanese machinery makers lead to a demise in the textile machinery in the Blackstone Valley and in most parts of the United States. Production ceased in the 70's. Their looms are still in use today. From local sewing factory liquidation. Zero-Max model E2 drive power block with binding puller attachment. One way drive. Drive goes in same direction no matter which way the pulley turns. The lever is to engage the drive. Max length of the assembly on the aluminum base plate is 12" The knurled puller wheel is 1 1/2" wide. Extends 10 1/4" off of the drive block. Was mounted up in the air but you can do away with the long fabricated brackets and mount it however you like. Good working condition. For auction. This vintage 24" long textile shuttle. You won't find another one like this. Most are smaller. This was designed to operate on a very large English built loom designed for very thick conveyor belting fabric. It is 24" long X 2 3/4" wide X 2 1/4" high. I believe it is machined from a solid piece of wood with metal tips. The shuttle alone weighs 2 lb. 9 oz. It is well made in the U.S. and comes complete with a Quill.
