Vintage Bell& Howell Devry Console 80 Student Elec Proto kit with Variable Power Supply +/15vDC 5vDC 12.6vAC. Bought at an estate sale with a lot of other old electronics and test equipment. This is a Bell& Howell or DeVry Portable Student Electronics prototyping kit. This was likely someone's first project as they entered DeVry many years back and it would have been used to build projects during an electronics class. When I received this item. It was a little incomplete. No one had hooked up the capacitor in the power supply for-15v to ground, and there was no 5v regulated supply or function generator. I completed wiring the capacitor in, and built a small 7805 voltage regulator on a perf board and hooked up the 5v regulated supply. There was an unused 24vct transformer tap that was likely used for the function generator and ... more5vdc line originally. I used 1/2 of this to drive the 7805. The other half is vacant. Unfortunately, the front clasp is broken off, and the back spine is getting weak. It may be possible to rig something to make the clasp work, so I am including the broken piece. There is only one bread board inside the box with high-strength Velcro. If you can find matching Velcro, it should hold two more bread boards inside. As mentioned, the function generator electronics are not present, but conceivably could be added. The box has the following outputs: 5v Regulated output. Positive adjustable voltage from 2v to 17v, Negative adjustable voltage from-2v to-17v, and one 12.6vct AC output. This is a very cool vintage. Lamps and meters all tested good. Ripple was unmeasurable on our scope- nice clean DC even under full amps. Cooling fan works well. Unit was detailed and will include 2 sets of power leads and a matching power cord of 7.5 feet for 120V AC USA. The supply can also be used on up to 240V by adjusting rear panel switches, but will be shipped in the 120-130 volt setting. All front and rear panel markings are clear and exterior looks in very good to excellent condition other than very slight yellowing of dye on the front panel areas as shown.

So when you set the needle to 5, 12, or 22, you're more than likely within about 100mV without even breaking out a separate multimeter.
