Very nice clean example of a soldering iron from the Western Electric Hawthorne Works in Cicero. Illinois, probably from the 1950's or late 1940's. Cloth covered cord is not frayed or dirty, and the wooden handle, which is stamped“WE CO” is excellent, with a shiny lacquer finish. The element and tip's patina are indicative of having been heated a few times. Do not see any other marking but believe this is a 100 Watt iron. It was wrapped in a brown bag stored in a cabinet, from the estate of a long retired Hawthorne Works senior engineer. Plugged it in and it heated up properly. I recently purchased an $800 rework station. So I don't need this iron any more. It was made by Micro-Measurements, of Measurements Group Vishay in either Romulus MI, or Raleigh NC. It runs good, and seems to be very low hours(not beaten up, doesn't hum and rattle) This unit is well-made. And a good alternative to the too-expensive Weller.
