This auction is for a vintage boom angle indicator. Off what we think is a Thew Shovel Lorain Moto-Crane, probably post WWII. It has most of the original paint on it. Arrow moves freely. Be the first on your block to mount this onto your fireplace mantle or in the train room- Moto Cranes were used a lot by the rail roads for track maintenance and repairs. This is an authentic piece of Americana and fairly unusual. Would make a great gift to a crane or machinery collector and an interesting conversation piece. Calweld Crane-Mounted Drill Attachment -Drill Rig Drilling Rig -Needs Work
We are offering for sale a Calweld drill attachment that is made to be mounted onto the front of a conventional lattice boom type crane. This attachment allows you to drill large diameter holes to depths in excess of 50' deep. Depending on what type of kelly bar you are using. This machine provides the rotary torque for the auger, the crane provides the up and down motion. A long square bar(known as a kelly bar) hangs from a cable on the crane, threads through the rotary drive of this attachment then an auger is attached to the bottom of the kelly bar. This unit belonged to my Dad's deep foundation drilling company and has not been run in many years. I believe it is a model 55 which was designed to mount onto a smaller crane. The engine is an International in-line. 6-cylinder, 4-cycle diesel, which I believe is a UDH model. I am told ... morethat this engine is the same engine that was used in the International crawler tractors and International Harvester agricultural equipment of the day. The power is transmitted from the engine via a Funk Reverse-O-Matic forward-neutral-reverse shuttle unit coupled to a 4-speed remote side-shift gear box. Output from the gear box is reduced via a multi-width drive chain and sprockets to the right-angle final drive ring and pinion gear housing, which turns the yoke through which the kelly bar is threaded. This unit does have the hydraulic sliding base option, which allows for easier positioning and leveling This drill attachment was purchased by my Dad's company many years ago. They used it successfully on one job, and has been in storage since. It was a very low hour unit when they bought it, as the previous owner only used if for a few projects before they went out of the drilling business. We had a mechanic look it over to assess the condition of it. The engine was found to be free and a new starter was purchased and installed. He was able to crank the engine over. You are bidding on a 1984 Clark 714 Rough Terrain Crane. It is in really nice shape and it is very dependable. No matter what the temperature or conditions. Starts right up every time. Cosmetically, as far as paint is concerned, it is pretty typical for the age with paint flaking in places and general surface rust, but no salt or rust through, etc. This machine runs and operates exactly as it should. It has a 453 Detroit Diesel engine and it runs great. The rear tires were losing air slowly, so I bought two solid rear tires and installed them so no more flats on the rear.ever! This crane has a 60' boom with a 14 ton capacity. It has 4 outriggers and even a pintle hitch. The boom was inspected in March of this year and it tested well.
