You are bidding on a General Radio portable sound level meter with fold-out collectible microphone. This is a pretty cool vintage meter. One of the nicest I've seen. The meter does not appear to be working. At least I can't generate any meter movement with it plugged in and trying different input settings. The battery contacts inside have some corrosion(no battery present) that needs to be cleaned up, and the shielded box inside that houses the tube componentry needs to be remounted as a couple of the isolation bushings that hold it in place have disintegrated with age. Probably not a difficult repair, and the peanut tube(or tubes, I didn't look inside the shielded box so not sure if there is more than one) and microphone have value on their own. I am unfamiliar with this meter and do not know if it is working properly. It had no batteries in it and so I put 2 new 9 volt batteries in. Please see the photos of the meter; one with switch in battery position and the other with the switch in test position with the calibrator turned on. Calibrator makes a tone when turned on and meter does read the noise level. With the calibrator on the end of the mic the meter read just over 9 in the 100 db position. With the switch in the battery position it reads only just over 2. I have no instructions or manual for use. This is sold as is and complete with all items shown plus 2 new 9 volt batteries. For your consideration is a Quest model M-7B Noise Dosimeter s/n T4022075 and model CA-32 Sound Calibrator s/n Y4020006. Also included in the auction is the calibrator adapter insert and the molded plastic carrying case. I ran a calibration of the noise dosimeter using the CA-32 as described in the user's manual. The user's manual states that the M-7B readout following the calibration should be between 1.64 and 2.15 with 1.87 being the ideal target value. I read a value of 1.92 indicating that the dosimeter and calibrator are working correctly. Sorry I do not have a hard copy of the user's manual but it may be downloaded at not cost from the internet. I acquired this Type one meter from Thompson Audiology in Yakima and it had been very well maintained but Jim has retired now and the new owners of the business told me that they were now using a Type 2 Quest 215 meter without a filter to do background noise studies prior to or while testing. This is a common misconception only a type one meter should be used to check an area before industrial hearing testing or for monitoring background noise. This unit has a built in Octave Filter and has 200 Volt polarization required for some Microphones. The micro phone pictured is not polarized but is flat out to 19K hz.The calibrator included works but needs to be rewired to common 9 Volt battery. And it got all the way to disk 3 before it announced that it was unable to locate a CD-ROM drive, which I guess is a requisite for NT v4.0. Oh, well. Quest Electronics 211A/FS Sound Level Meter For sale- a Quest Electronics 211A/FS Sound Level Meter. Typically referred to as an SPL meter, plus the CA-12 Calibrator. The batteries in the SPL meter were a bit low. One of them so much so that I won’t be shipping it with the meter. I put fresh batteries in the CA-12 and as you can see with the 211A set on 110dB it almost reads 0 which would be the desired result. If I had to guess with a fresh set of batteries in the 211A it would probably be right on the money. But I can’t preclude the possibility that it will need to be re-calibrated prior to being placed in service. So in addition to the 211A and CA-12 plus the padded case you will get 2 fresh 9 volt batteries plus one that measures a bit over 8 volts. So you will need at least one 9 volt battery and the results would no doubt be better ... moreif you had two fresh ones. The meter is untested other than as described and as pictured(the picture with the meter reading about“3” is in the Battery Check position) and NO warranty is offered. However. All of the dials and buttons moves smoothly and lines up properly with required settings. There are no burn marks or smells emitting from the unit. The original outer case has been damaged. The chasis has been placed in another outer shell. The mounting screws in the rear do not line up however the only thing need to be done is drill new holes in the outer shell.
