Up for auction is this Vintage 1950's Survey Meter/Geiger Counter by Atomic-Electronic Associates. Top is very dark green and has a headphone jack along with several knobs. Meter and counter(light) This is a piece of history. Information taken from the website of ORAU.org: Output: no speaker but jack for headphones. The neon light labeled"Count" flashes every time a pulse is registered. Detector: Six Victoreen 6306 thin-walled GM tubes with bismuth cathodes. NARDA 8716 ELECTROMAGNETIC MONITOR METER AND CASE
Very nice condition. It has been in storage for about 2 years and the batteries still had a charge. I’m buying a new meter since this one is a bit dated for professional use and the probes evaporated. The sticker on the back says NARDA calibrated it in 1996– although I don’t see the sticker it the calibration was recertified about 2006 or 2007– regardless it is out of date and the probes are missing. We charged the batteries but they may need replacing. The battery reading was when it came from storage. It was charged a week ago and now shows about 80% I went to use this for a consulting job only to find the probes missing. When I asked who used it last I was told“Not Me” by everyone– so if you see Not Me ask him to call me. The probes can often be found alone on eBay for a very reasonable price. Keys are in the case– the manual(unopened) ... moreand the strap is in the case along with a power cord. The case is in very good looking condition. Shipping within the US48 is $22 and will be by FedEx Ground. It comes with a probe and an HP 82143A Printer(untested) But without any cords or charger. The Brookhaven Survey Assay Meter was developed by scientists at Brookhaven National Labs and Los Alamos National Labs. to supplant the Stabilized Assay Meter(SAM-II) It is in good cosmetic condition. With some scuffs, scratches or magic marker traces. It powered up when connected to a bench power supply but we are unable to test it further as we do not have the cords to connect the probe to the meter. Because we can not fully test it. It's sold as-is, though as a surplus item from a government laboratory, there's a good chance that it may work fine, or be repairable. This is the only one on ebay- don't let it get away!
