Here for your consideration is an old BELL SYSTEM metert that measures impedance. Ohms and megohms, although the scale is labeled POINTS, which must mean something specific to the telephone system. The case is black bakelite and measures about 5 ½ by 3 ¾ by 2 ¾ inches. Controls include an ON/OFF switch, a REV. reverse? switch, a battery adjust knob and a“divide-by-ten” pushbutton. The meter comes with two long test leads ending in clips. It fits very tightly into a heavy leather case. This is an AEMC model 1250 hand cranker. Many scratches on the unit but works great. I tested each voltage range(250V. 500V, 1kV) with a volt meter connected while cranking the tester and got each setting almost exactly to the volt. Then shorted the leads on each setting and the meter deflected all the way over while the crank got harder to turn, as it should. Sold AS-IS but I think this meter is in good working order. Digital Megohmmeter 250/500/1000 vdc
Bought new 3 yrs ago. Used very little. Comes w/ test leads but it's missing 1 of the alligator clip extensions, still works. Great for checking small control wiring and small parts for corona or leakage, but because it converts 9vdc into 250/500/1000 volts dc from a single battery, it is insufficient for motors and large items. It will charge up a 10 mfd capacitor(properly rated) up to 1000 vdc in about 30 sec. If your needing a megger for testing motors etc. you'll need to look elsewhere because this won't handle it.
