I bought the Ridgid 36163 and found the culprit in 15 minutes, a loose 5 inch PVC cleanout cap that would build up gas under pressure and belch a wonderful odor occasionally. This machine is very simple to operate. And rugged. It detects over a dozen noxious combustible gases including Methane. Propane, Butane, Ethanol, Ammonia, Hydrogen. It has a nice beefy bendable gooseneck to get into tight places. Comes with an instructional DVD too, but I was able to operate it within 5 minutes after reading quick start. I am guessing the oxygen level sensor must need to be recalibrated or replaced.
