PLEASE READ THIS FIRST: PAYMENT IS DUE AND EXPECTED AT THE END OF THE AUCTION. These were headed for the scrap yard when I rescued them. Vintage old pair of Iron or Steel Wheels with axle. These came off of an old railroad baggage/freight cart. They are in useable condition. They need cleaning. The wheels measure 12" in diameter and are 2" wide. They mount on the axle with a primitive bearing system. Please see pictures. The axle measures 27 1/2" long overall. The axle shaft is 1" in diameter. I've seen these used frequently for hit& miss engine carts. They are heavy duty and could handle a lot of weight. They have remnants of orange paint on them but it's mostly gone. Age unknown. They are rusty and pitted. The foot brake plates on 2 of the are about rusted through. The mounting plate is 6-1/4" long x 4-1/2" wide. All the wheels spin and swivel. See Pictures. 1800s Swivel Caster Set Very rare trio of swivel casters of cast iron with a luscious old patina. Dated 1879 by M. B. Schenck& Company of Meriden. CT. High quality construction; roll and swivel beautifully. Great condition. 2 1/8” overall height. 2" x 2 5/8” mounting plates. Interestingly. Mr. Schenck voted for President Lincoln and started his caster company shortly after returning from service in the Civil War. A great piece of authentic U.S. history!
