You see for sale here one model 111 Crystal calibrator made by Measurements Corp. Sometime around 1960 or 1961 I think. It's old enough to have been built with a 2-prong cord. The 3-prong grounded plug was not yet a requirement in 1961. It's new enough to have a selenium rectifier stack for the B+, rather than a vacuum-tube rectifier. The design of the front panel resembles a high-school science-fair project. The large frequency dial obscures the maker's name and the markings above the frequency-selector control. Just looks sloppy. The"Trim" knob at the far upper right obscures the last 2 letters of the word"Calibrator" As if half the features were afterthoughts added after the front panel was designed and built. I include one picture with the large dial removed. So you can see what I mean. There should be ... moreenough pictures to tell the story. The bayonet-type metal tube shields are AWOL. No telling where they got away to. The tubes look original, a 6BA6, a 12AU7 and two 12AX7. Note that none of these tubes has an"A" suffix letter. They are THAT old. The multi-section type FP"twist-lock" filter capacitor bears a legend that starts with"235" Mallory's EIA member number, followed by"948H" Before approximately 1960, an EIA-format date code had only 3 digits, one for the year followed by two digits for the week 01-52. Makes this part look like the 48th week of 1959 when it was made. The two 12AX7 tubes shown are probably worth more than the calibrator. Their date codes are in 4-digit format, showing 1959 and 1960. Don't know if the tubes are original, but they sure could be. Anyone who wants to put it to use for its original purpose would need to replace all the electrolytic and paper capacitors. They don't age gracefully, especially past the 50 year mark. Hence the magic Ebay phrase"FOR PARTS OR REPAIR ONLY" Measurements Corp was a first-grade supplier of lab-grade instruments 50 years ago.
